Obituary For Betty Llewella Hayden

HAYDEN, Betty Llewella, 82, Whites Lake, NS passed away on November 12, 2024. Born February 28, 1942 in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Jean MacInnis.

From Halifax, she moved with her family to Head Chezzetcook, and it was there that she met a handsome repair man named Stanley who had come to fix the furnace. It was love at first sight, and they would go on to marry, settling in Prospect to start a family of their own, and enjoy 55 years of marriage.

Family and friends meant everything to her, and she instilled a sense of togetherness in us all; she was the glue that binds. Betty had many interests, but nothing made her happier than being around people, talking with friends and entertaining. She was a great cook, baker and an amazing hostess. Over the years, Betty and Stan hosted many gatherings, including annual New Years Eve parties at their home in Hatchet Lake, and family reunions, parties and countless Summer socials at their “camp” on Prospect Bay. No matter what the occasion, Betty’s guests were always met with a smile, open arms and plenty of delicious food; she loved serving up sandwiches and squares!

Betty adored being around children and was a generous and proud volunteer with Scouts Canada for almost 40 years. Whether she was selling blueberries, hosting fundraisers, or cooking at a jamboree, Betty thoroughly enjoyed her time with Scouts. Betty was known as the local Avon lady and won numerous awards for her record sales. But it was never about the recognition, it was the connection she made with customers that she valued most. Betty loved the simple things in life, enjoyed yard sales, finding a new piece of dishware, watching Hallmark movies, and completing a newspaper crypto-quote or word puzzle. Betty also enjoyed new experiences and through self-determination, was able to conquer her fear of flying and travelled to both Vancouver and Japan, two trips she was very proud of and excited to have made. Above all, Betty was an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

Betty is survived by son Donald, daughter Vicki, brother Richard (Judy), sisters Pamela (Gerald) Murphy, Patricia (Gordon) Brennan and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by husband Stanley, son Andrew, and brothers Wayne, Donald, and Robert.

Cremation has taken place under direction of Donald K. Walker Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 6-8pm on Wednesday, November 27th at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, 2320 Prospect Road. A Celebration of Life Funeral will be held at the same location, 10am on Friday, November 29th. Reception to follow at Prospect Road Community Centre. Private family burial will take place at a later date

We were very sorry to read about Betty's passing in the newspaper. Frank was very involved in Scouting with Betty and Stan. Her dedication and enthusiasm in keeping the 2nd Hatchet Lake and Armview District running for the kids in our communities was outstanding. We enjoyed their hospitality on New Year's Eve and at other events and parties over the years. Our condolences to Vicki and Donald for their loss. She was a great lady and will be missed.

So very sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She most certainly would want to be reunited with Stanley. They were such a special couple, for sure. I knew Betty for a long time, met her first as my Avon lady when I moved to Prospect Road . She then introduced me to so many people and also invited me to join TOPS. Betty was an amazing lady, so welcoming and so very generous. The world was a better place because of her and I was blessed to have met her. She definitely touched so many lives and influenced many generations of young Scouts. She will be missed and remembered by all. Enjoy an eternal rest, Sweet Betty. Sincere condolences to all of her family and friends. ❤️

So surprised to read about Betty's passing - guess I felt she would live forever. We met through our husbands working together many years ago and spent a lot of time at both their home in Hatchet Lake and then their cottage (where I caught my first mackeral in Stan's boat). Our children grew up over the same period of time and we kept in touch through cards and phone calls. I was so glad that I finally found my way to her home and caught up on old times just a couple of years ago after we were both widowed. A friendlier person than Betty has never been and I will always remember her. God bless. Sandra Carr & Four Daughters.

Dear Vicki, Donald and family. It was with a heavy heart that we heard the news of Betty's passing. I knew and loved Betty because of her service to scouting. It was always a pleasure to be in her company, weather it was a guild meeting, a scout popcorn fund raiser kick off or having the pleasure of a good cup of coffee and one of her famous date squares, it was always a smile a good hug and she wanted to know how you were. She will be missed. Sleep well my friend you have earned your rest

Dear Vicki, Donald and family; our hearts are with you. Betty was one of my favorite people in this world. Having known her for 55 years, she was always so good to me. She was my second mom, my friend, my confidant, my support. She always brought out the best in me and my heart aches now that she's gone. She loved you all so deeply and never missed an opportunity to brag about her wonderful children, who meant everything to her. This world will never be the same without her beautiful smile and generous heart in it. Hugs...
