Obituary For Phyllis Chaulk "Ransome"
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Phyllis (Ransome) Chaulk, age 92, on November 1, 2022, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Phyllis was born in Burnt Islands, Newfoundland on July 3, 1930, to parents John Henry and Melita Victoria (King) Ransome. She lived in Burnt Islands most of her life until the passing of her husband, Gerald Thomas Chaulk in 1998. Shortly after his passing, she moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to be close to her children and grandchildren.
Phyllis was a loving mother, a fantastic cook and baker and kept a very meticulous home. She welcomed everyone into her home where there was always a warm cup of tea and some sort of baked good for you to enjoy. A favorite was her delicious scones (with or without raisins) and apricot cake, especially at Christmas time. Phyllis was an avid gardener, always tending to her vegetable garden, even at a very young age. She loved assisting Gerald with all home projects, sometimes even taking the lead, and enjoyed their refreshing winter walks into the woods. Upon moving to Halifax in the early 2000’s she took up aerobic classes at the nearby church hall and thoroughly enjoyed her daily trip to Tim Hortons for her coffee and catching up with her new friends.
Over her 92 years she had seen and endured so much but she was the strongest lady we have ever known.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, Gerald Thomas Chaulk; father and mother, John and Melita (King) Ransome; son-in-law, Graham Fralick; brothers, Jim Ransome (Annie May & Ella), William Ransome and Ray Ransome; sisters, Olive Caines (Ken) and Helen Jamieson (Jamie).
She is survived by her daughters, Dianne (Munden) Fralick of Glen Margaret, NS and Paula Chaulk (Jay Clarke) of Beaver Bank, NS: sons, Calvin Munden (Brenda) of Truro, NS and Gary Munden (Donna) of Halifax, NS; grandchildren, Angela Fralick, Kimberley Fralick (Vern), Gary Munden (Wanda), Tracy Hancock (Durwin), Desi Munden (Tara), Gregory Munden (Tara), Ryan Munden (Julie), James Clarke and Emma Clarke; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Thorne, Brandon Fralick, Jack Thorne, Karley Fralick, Piper Hancock, Chase Munden, Nicholas Munden, Kaley Munden, Xavier Hancock and Jaxon Munden; great-great grandchildren, Grayson Fralick and Tyairah Thorne; sister, Shirley Ransome (Fred Young) and sister-in-law Lynn Ransome of Ottawa, ON, as well as many nephews and nieces.
A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Parkstone Enhanced Care for the kindness shown to her over her time there.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society or St. George’s Anglican Church, Burnt Islands, Newfoundland.
Cremation has taken place, however, a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. A burial service will take place in Burnt Islands, Newfoundland in the Summer of 2023.
