Obituary For Raymond Douglas Cluett
Raymond Douglas Cluett
In the early morning hours of August 12, 2024, at Dartmouth General Hospital Ray found peace - free from appointments, procedures, prescriptions and pain. 78 years ago, Ray was born in Halifax, to Alfred T, and Edith M. (Carroll) Cluett.
Ray loved his family, and we all enjoyed our time camping at Sherwood Forest, going to Disney World, enjoying time around our swimming pool, and going on family vacations. Ray was a gifted salesperson while having an entrepreneurial spirit that can be seen through his career in furniture. In 1963 Ray began working at Glubes in Halifax; in1973 he opened the House of Cluett at the newly constructed MicMac Mall; in 1977 Ray went to work at Seaman Cross; in1984 he opened the Furniture Connection in Dartmouth; in 1993 he worked at Nothin’ Fancy in Sackville and in 1995 he began working at World Wide Furniture in Halifax and later in Dartmouth. Ray also enjoyed giving back to his community. Through the years Ray was a member of Halifax Board of Trade, Hospitality Awareness Research of Nova Scotia (H.A.R.P.N.S.), Metro Business Association, Dartmouth Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth, and Dartmouth Hometown Boys.
Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Lynn (Daykin), his daughter Andrea (Kevin Downey) and his son Chris (Andrea Boyce-Cluett); his grandsons Jeramie Cluett-Downey (Jillian Hare) and John Cluett; great-grandchildren Samantha, Madison, Matthew, Jessica, Jocelyn, Jacob and Josie; his sister Rita Roberts, his brother David (Joan) his sisters-in-law Carol, Gail, Gloria, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ray was predeceased by his sister Shirley, his parents, his brothers Wayne, Ron and George and his granddaughter Kayla.
The family would like to give our heart-felt thanks to Ray’s family doctor Dr. B. Izzard, who directed him to whatever specialist was needed for his many health issues; thanks to all of the specialists he saw on a regular basis over the last 4 years, thanks to Dr. Singh at the Dartmouth General Hospital for the month of care, compassion, concern and hope he gave to Ray and his family, the nurses and staff of 4th Floor E, and the palliative care team of 5th Floor W at DGH. Ray and family were incredibly grateful for the expertise and kindness he received as he fought his many health issues. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made in his memory to the Dartmouth General Hospital or charity of your choice. An informal gathering to celebrate Ray will be held on September 20th at Austenville Owls Club, 34 Oakdale Crescent, Dartmouth for drop in anytime between 11:00am until 1:00pm. At 1:00pm, the family will leave for interment.
