Obituary For Charles Edward Murphy
It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Charlie Murphy passed away peacefully on December 21, 2019 at the age of 83 with his family by his side at the QE2.
He was born in 1936 Caribou Gold Mines to Edna (Wood) and Lawrence Murphy. After moving to Halifax, he drove delivery truck for Chris Brother’s Meats, ran a taxi company, and then continued a long career owning and operating C&W Auto, a PetroCanada station, with his brother. He touched many lives with his spirit, generosity, and of course his infectious laughter. His volunteer activities included Scouts Canada, various Rockingham United Church committees, Brunswick Street Mission Breakfast Program, Blandford Seasiders, Rockingham Volunteer Fire Department, and being a beacon of kindness and generosity to all that he met.
He is survived by his children: Jamie and his wife Darlene (McIntosh), Wayne, Krista and her partner Jamie Guitar. Also, his grandchildren: Amanda and her husband Steve Julien, Sage McGrath and her partner Allen Sutherland, Jackson McGrath, Mercedes McGrath and her partner Josh Crane, and his son-in-law Bill McGrath. He was blessed with three great-grandchildren: Landen, Oaklan, and Jada. He’ll also be missed by many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and the members of the Rockingham and Blandford communities. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Lynne (MacDonald) Murphy, and his parents and brothers Wes and Bernie.
The funeral service will be held at Rockingham United Church on January 4th at 11 am. Should you wish to make a donation in his name, choose the charity of your choice.
