Obituary For Glen St. Clair Walker

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Glen St. Clair Walker, a devoted family man, passionate hot rodder, and respected pillar of theMaritime motorsports community.

Born to Arthur and Ida Walker, Glen lived life full throttle. His journey began with Y Towing, and before long, he made his mark by purchasing Walkers Fina on Brunswick Street—where the real havoc began.

Glen bought his very first tow truck while owning the service station, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in towing, motorsports, and mechanical excellence.

Glen’s passion extended far beyond the tow yard. He was the founder of the well-known Intruders Car Club, an organization that inspired generations of hot rodders and car enthusiasts across the Maritimes. He was a dedicated drag racer, an avid engine builder, and a guiding light in the world of motorsports—mentoring, sponsoring, and supporting racers and builders alike.

In 1986, Glen purchased Bonner’s Towing, which later became A1 Towing, a name known and respected throughout the region thanks to his tireless work ethic and unshakable standards. When Glen moved to Sackville, he planted roots that would grow deep—raising a family and becoming a trusted community member.

Glen served as the Halifax Chairman of the Speedsport Custom Car Shows, being the first to bring TV cars and celebrity guests to the Maritimes, igniting enthusiasm and expanding the reach of custom car culture. His drag racing ventures took him all along the Eastern Seaboard and forged many lifelong friendships. He eventually passed the torch to his son and granddaughter, who followed in his racing footsteps. Stock car racing also held a special place in his heart. He started as a techman at Drag City and went on to serve as a crew chief and crew member for various racing teams—including his own family. This love naturally evolved into a deep appreciation for NASCAR, and Glen became a passionate collector of racing memorabilia. Among his many accomplishments was his work with the Lawrence Brothers (Peter and Patty) and countless others who benefited from his deep well of knowledge.

In 2021, Glen was proudly inducted into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to a life dedicated to the road, the track, and the people who traveled both with him. Glen met Debbie Comeau, in 1994, and together they built a bond full of love, laughter, and mutual admiration. Even as he slowed down, Glen remained deeply involved with the industry—strategically planning their Florida vacations around towing conventions, always blending business with pleasure.

He never lost his love for street rods, drag racing, and show-and-shines, and he could often be found tinkering with his beloved hot rods on quiet evenings and weekends. He was proud of his hot rod collection. Glen was a generous supporter of local motorsports events, hockey teams, drivers, and community charities. His impact reached far beyond the shop or track—his legacy is one of kindness, mentorship, and community spirit. He had a huge heart, despite his size.

Glen is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Comeau, and his best friend forever, JYC. He also leaves behind his brothers Gary (Sharon) and Allan; his children Danny (Ashley) and Nicki (Stephen); stepson Jeffrey; grandchildren MacKenzie, Ashley, Dylen, Charley, Jade, and Jonathen; and great-grandchild Aidan. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ida.

Whether you knew him as Red, Chief, or simply recognized him by thatinfamous chewed-up cigar—Glen was unforgettable. He left an indelible mark on every person he met, often with a laugh, a story, or a helping hand. His legacy will live on in the roar of engines, the gleam of polished chrome, and the hearts of those lucky enough.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
