(Chesley) Wayne Lacey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother died peacefully in the presence of his wife and family on August 15, 2021 at the Halifax Infirmary. Wayne was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, and raised in Newfoundland by Hugh and Ruth Lacey. He married Sheila ( Wolfe), his loving wife for over 50 years, and together they raised two children, Natalie and Kevin (Suhanya Edwards, children Egan and Maggie). The oldest of six, he is survived by Karen, Keith, Kathryn, Kristine, and Grace and joins the late Kevin in peace. Wayne served 25 years as an RCMP officer in Nova Scotia where he made lifelong friends and regaled his family and friends with his experiences long after his retirement. Wayne continued his love of being on the road and sharing his knowledge of the history and happenings of Nova Scotia as an airport and tour driver. Wayne took great pride and responsibility in being the strength and provider for his family, the Lacey clan, friends, and neighbours. His greatest enjoyments included sharing a “good spread of food,” traditional Newfoundland recipes, country music and walking his beloved Westie dog. Wayne was a man of few words, but a man of selfless purpose and commitment to protect those he loved. He was respected, adored and will be dearly missed. A funeral will be held on August 20th 11am at Deepwater Church 5657 North Street, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: The Nova Scotia SPCA (https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/).

I knew Wayne for the last couple of years as a customer when I did handyman work for him at various times and for a variety of projects. He was always very generous, kind and thoughtful while always trusting my skills and abilities as a handyman. As a result of his personal references, I attained a lot of handyman work from some very nice folks that he knew personally and who were confident with his judgement in referring me. I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to meet, to work for and get to know him albeit for a short of period time in his life. I offer my heartfelt condolences to Sheila and her family. May he rest in peace! Walt Vienneau

My condolences to Sheila, Kevin and Natalie. Wayne and I were neighbors up until his passing. I have a large vegetable garden in my yard and Wayne loved the produce I shared with him - especially the tomatoes! Wayne was a man who truly appreciated food. We shared a fondness for baked beans and Wayne would often stop me in my yard to tell me that a certain brand of beans was on sale somewhere and that I should stock up! We shared a love of dogs too - our paths often crossed when he was out with Tiffany or Sophie and I was out walking my Ellie. Wayne got such a kick from seeing his little Westie pushing a red ball around the soccer field! And Wayne was my "go to" for drop-offs or pick ups at the airport. Such a nice, gentle man. Our neighborhood (and I) will miss him greatly! Scott Smith - Nottingham Street, Bedford

Karen, Keith, Kathryn, Kristine, Grace and all the Lacey family: I was saddened to hear of Wayne's passing. Wayne and his family played a very important role in my life while growing up in Gander. We lived in the same building (69) on the American side of old Gander and then lived almost back to back on streets when we moved into the new town. Wayne was a leader and we younger boys always looked up to him. I have have so many fond memories of our times together. Please accept my deepest sympathies. May the fond memories that you have, help to ease the pain in your time of loss. Marilyn sends condolences, as well. Don Carter

Shelia and Family; A week or so ago, I got a call from Wayne to check on how I was doing. He had not seen me walking on the waterfront and because of a medical incident some time earlier, wanted to check and see if I needed or wanted anything. He was that kind off a man. We shared many memories and I have and will treasure them. Marilyn and I will miss his quiet mannerism's and his devotion to his family and friends. The waterfront will not be the same without him and his fur buddies. We share your pain but also your joys of years past. Don and Marilyn SNOW

Nat and family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. Mr. Lacey was an amazing human being. He was always so kind to me, he would send me lobsters for doing small things for you and your brother Kevin when you were both living in Ottawa. I remember one time he sent me 6 lobsters and you ate three of them, from then on he sent me canned lobster (smart man). He was always available to take Mike and Marc to and from their focus groups when they came to Halifax and of course they always got a private tour of the city. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, the courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. With my deepest sympathy as we remember Mr. Lacey xoxo

Wayne was a neighbour who became a friend then like a family member to our family. Dom still remembers the time when he was about 5 and he was in with Wayne and his dad and they fed the goats in Mahone Bay in the pouring rain because Dom wanted to feed the goats so badly Wayne had to make sure Dom got the opportunity to feed the goats no matter what!! Sheila, I am so sorry for your loss he loved you and was a great provider.
