Obituary For Dawn Elaine Sperry
With a heavy heart and profound sadness we announce the passing of Dawn Elaine Sperry, 86 HRM - Nova Scotia who passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Sunday, May 30, 2021. Born in Buckfield, NS Dawn was the daughter of the late Helen (McKay) Wile and the late W Laurie Wile who was a prominent leader and builder in the South Shore community.
Dawn was a loving, nurturing mother and wife to her immediate family and to all who had the pleasure to know her. She was a kind hearted soul, often smiling and loved having her family and friends spend time at the family home and at the cottage (Beavertail Basin - Molega Lake). She had many great memories of having good times and offers this legacy of the family lands to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cherished times with her granddaughters at the cottage and especially engaging in a game of cards with her granddaughter Alessandra and doing cross word puzzles together as she was an avid lover of word puzzles and in particular the Friday Lexicon. Dawn was genuine, authentic and embraced her life with joy and showed much positivity often seeing “the glass as half full”. This was a testament to her courageous battle with her progressive illness. Dawn was like a cat with nine lives as she often bounced back with much resiliency. Sadly this time she was called upon by the Lord to offer her peace and tranquility. Speaking of cats, she loved Coco, and her family pet dogs Nikki, Nikita and lastly Bailey. Dawn would often enjoy a clementine as her night snack and would share the clementine with her beloved pet Bailey! We are quite certain Bailey is giving her kisses in heaven. Dawn embraced the natural world, and enjoyed gardening and the sweet aroma of her lilac tree, dahlias and her majestic chestnut tree in the front yard. She enjoyed travel and her special times to Florida with her husband and close friends to become snow birds upon her retirement. All were amazed how she embraced technology such as using her iPad, and Facebook as she valued connecting with family and friends across the globe especially her cottage friends Ursula and Fritz who reside in Germany. Dawn held a strong work ethic and although she had a rewarding career in the bank and retail industry she always put her family and friends first.
She is survived by her loving husband Percy, beloved son Laurie Scott (Maria), daughters Elizabeth (Harry), Michelle (Byron), and her cherished granddaughters Chantel Goulet and Alessandra Nadalini.
Dawn was predeceased by her eight brothers who held a special place in her heart - Wilfred, Teddy, Glenn, Graham, Paige, Merrill, Donald, and Kendall. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Wile and Shirley Ross, nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and many thanks to Joe and Margaret Patterson and niece Krista, Ian and family for their on-going support.
A special thank you to the staff at the 4-West Cardiac Unit and a very compassionate physician Dr. Tyler Mercer who often oversaw Dawn’s care with her courageous battle.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital, SPCA or please pay it forward to someone who needs a new pair of shoes or a hearty meal as this is what Dawn would want. In accordance to the Nova Scotia Health protocols of Covid-19, it will be a closed service for the immediate family only at a later date. Dawn will be brought home to her resting place on the South Shore where there will be a celebration of her life in the Chelsea United Baptist Church following a burial service at the Chelsea Maple Grove Cemetary.
In celebration of Dawn’s life we leave all she loved behind with this special gift from her family with the reading of Footprints in the Sand:
One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord and across the skies flashed scenes from my life. In each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine and one was the Lord’s. When the last scene of my life appeared before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand and to my surprise I noticed that at many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I asked the Lord about it. Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, you would walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there’s only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why You left my side when I needed You the most. The Lord said “My precious child I never left you during your time of trial when you see only one set of footprints...I was carrying you”
