JONES (Saunders), Deborah. Died August 13, 2019. Born December 2, 1958 in Halifax, she grew up in Spryfield. In 1981 she married the love of her life, Bryan Jones. “He was a rock star,” she said, “and he noticed my slender boots and long brown hair!” For many years she worked as a hairdresser. She especially enjoyed working in nursing homes where she would do haircuts for the seniors. “They were all my grandmothers and grandfathers,” she said. Eventually she handed over her hairdressing shop to Rose, who soon became one of her closest friends. In her spare time, Debbie taught figure skating, and spent many happy hours in her gardens and with her pets. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and weekends spent “with the girls,” especially Laurie, Stephanie, Bernadette, Gail, Bernice, Sandra, Kelli, Sandra. For over 30 years she and Brian spent summer weekends at their trailer in Coldbrook where she had many friends and which she called her “happy place”. “I couldn’t wait to get there,” she said. She was a devoted member of Church of the Holy Spirit in Lakelands, Nova Scotia, where she served in many different roles, including warden, Sunday School teacher, and fund raising. Debbie was predeceased by her father, Randall James Saunders, and her brother, Thomas Saunders. She is survived by her mother, Ethel Saunders (nee Banfield), sister Ethel Saunders, sister-in-law, Kathy Saunders, and son, Blaize, and his fiancé, Erica Bennett. She loved her family more than the whole earth. “Tell everybody I knew that I loved them.”

Debbie was my hairstyling teacher at Michael's. She really cared about her students, so much so that when one of her students wanted to get married and money was a real issue, she helped bring the dream to life, even making the cake. Another memory I have is as a grade 4 student at Ida Mae Marriott school. Debbie walked me safely home from school and protected me from a girl who was threatening to "beat me up." From an early age she had a maturity and confidence beyond her years. She died too young. I'm sorry for your loss.

Brian and Blaze, I will never forget Debbie's laugh. She brightened up the whole room and could always see good no matter how bad things were. She was a true friend to my sister Heather and always had a funny story to tell her. She will be sooo missed. She truly is an Angel in Heaven.
