It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Della Frances Risley on January 16, 2025. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Della touched countless lives with her compassion, wisdom, and unwavering strength. A beloved aunt, devoted friend, and accomplished lawyer, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will be cherished forever.

Della’s greatest joys were her family and those she loved. She was a steadfast presence in the lives of her niece, nephews, and great-nephew, always ready with words of encouragement and guidance to help them navigate life’s challenges. Her niece Kara (Jen), nephews Jason (Eric) and Chris (Seana), and her adored great-nephew, Spencer, will forever remember her deep love, wisdom, and pride.

Della’s remarkable career as a lawyer took her from coast to coast, beginning with her law degree from Dalhousie University. Specializing in Labour Law, Della’s work brought her to Vancouver for many years, where she made a lasting impact in her field. Eventually returning to Halifax, she continued her distinguished career with the Halifax Regional Municipality until her retirement. Della also had the pleasure of sharing her knowledge as a part-time instructor at St. Mary’s University, a role she cherished.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Della was known for her love of animals, especially her beloved dogs Patti, Parzi, and Sammy, with whom she is now reunited.

Della’s kitchen was always well-stocked with three main staples; Coke Zero, microwave popcorn and chocolate cake, and despite her niece’s loving reminders that they didn’t quite constitute a proper meal, Della enjoyed them frequently. This is a true reflection of Della’s independent spirit and endearing stubbornness that made her such a force in both her personal life and career.

Della was predeceased by her loving parents, Thomas “Tom” Risley and Frances Geraldine “Gerry” (Burke), as well as her dear brother, Edward. Her memory will be lovingly held by her family and close friends, including Leza Jurgen, whose unwavering companionship and care during Della’s final days will forever be appreciated by the family.

In accordance with Della’s wishes, no formal service will be held. The family will gather for a private interment at a later date to celebrate her remarkable life.
