Obituary For Derek Evans Nauss

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derek Evans Nauss at the age of 58 on August 7, 2024, at the Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by family. He was born to parents Carol and Terrence Nauss on February 9, 1966, in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Derek is survived by his mother, father, brother Terry (Wanda), niece Cheryl (John), daughters Aimee and Brie-ann, grandchildren London and Mila, grand nieces Lennon and Elsie, many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his daughter Crystal, maternal and paternal grandparents.
Derek was a dedicated employee of the United Parcel Services (UPS) for 35 years in Ontario and Nova Scotia, both Feeder and Delivery driver. He was also a Teamsters Union Steward for several years where he felt he could make a difference for his fellow union members.
Derek enjoyed the finer things in life including motorcycles, a good plate of chicken wings (Franks hot sauce only) and a good ol’ glass of rum and Pepsi. He and Terry were always out looking for the best tasting wings and always argued over which were the good ones. Join us in raising a glass of your choice in remembrance of Derek.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and palliative care team at the Dartmouth General Hospital for their professionalism and care. We would also like to thank the many continuing care staff from Northwood for compassionately attending to Derek’s needs during his last months.
Cremation has taken place. Upon request, there will be no formal services. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Please reference on-line obituary at http://www.donaldkwalker.ca/ to provide condolences and share stories

I've known this fine young man since the day he was born, his mother is my beloved sister, and his brother is my beloved nephew. I used to say, you're my favourite you know, and he was in his own way as are all cherished children. He had a life well lived, he made sure of that. His daughters had a remarkable man for a father, setting a tone for their choices of men in their own lives. A legacy only a father can bestow. You were loved and will continue to be loved in our memories, Derek. Aunt Lynda, Uncle Joe and cousins Heather-Dawn and Dale.

I am soo incredibly sorry for the loss of Derek. I knew him since I was a little girl as he was one of my dad's best friends. Derek was always good to me and always made me laugh. He even came to my wedding in Cuba and we all had a blast. I know our whole family is going to miss him but I find a lot of peace knowing that he was able to pass on his terms and isn't in pain anymore. Rest easy Derek ❤️ -Denise Ure (Vanderlinde)

I was incredibly saddened to hear of Derek's passing. He was a wonderful coworker and an even better person. I often covered Derek's area whenever he took time off and I always admired how dedicated he was to his customers based on all the positive things they've had to say about him. It was clear to me he took pride in his work and I'm very grateful to say he played a huge role in mentoring me. He will be greatly missed, please accept my sincerest condolences. - Tyler Tattrie
