Obituary For Edward William Gannon
Gannon, Edward William, age 82, of Marriotts Cove, NS, born in Halifax, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Viola Gannon.
Edward worked as a union carpenter (Local 83) for the majority of his life. During his later years he enjoyed working at Granite Springs Golf Club and South Shore Marine where he made lasting friendships with both colleagues and customers. Ed’s life was filled with love and caring for everyone he met and knew, especially his two youngest grandchildren, Ella and Finn, who brought him so much love and joy. Ed loved to cook Italian or Chinese (thanks Kenny Sing). Many of us have great memories of the meals he prepared. Gardening was another pleasure he enjoyed.
Survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Marion (Young), daughter, Jane, sons, Shawn (Vicky), Troy, grandchildren, Justin, Myles, Catherine, Roland, Leyland, Jaimee, Carlee, Ella, and Finn, great-grandchildren, William and Ellie, his siblings, Eleanor (Bruce), John, Frank (Jean), Jim (Cathy), Ricky (Suzanne), sister-in-law, Marie. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Predeceased by son, Frank, daughter, Caroline, sisters, Patricia, Frances (Barry), brother, Kenny, sister-in-law, Louise.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be at St Augustines Church, Chester, NS. There will be a celebration of life to be held later. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice or do a kind deed for someone as you see needed. Thanks to everyone who has helped Ed along his path of transition to be reunited with family who have gone before him.
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me,
I took his hand when I heard his call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, to play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I’ve found that peace at the end of the day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah, yes, these things too I will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My Life’s been full. I savoured much:
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now. He set me free.
