Obituary For Elizabeth "Betty" Elaine Dachyshyn
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Elaine Dachyshyn (Lymburner) on Monday, August 8, 2022 in Halifax, NS, at the age of 83. She was the oldest daughter of the late Percy Lymburner and Elva Jessome. Betty was born in Tillsonburg, Ontario and moved to Alberta in her teenage years. This is where she spent her entire life until she moved to Halifax approximately 5 years ago.
Betty is survived by her son, Dean (Sonya), daughters, Elaine Dachyshyn and Anne Nixon (Murray); grandson, Barrett Dachyshyn; granddaughters, Stephanie and Katie Bain, Jenn Wigmore (Jim), Lindsey Dowler (Matt), Angela Smith (Kane); sister Carol Spracklin (Al), brother, Elmo Lymburner (Dolores); great grandchildren Amelia, Maggie, Max, Lucas, Olivia and Nate. Betty also had several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Nick Dachyshyn.
When Betty’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. Betty did that and more. She was not only an incredible mother but also an entrepreneur. Her and Nick ventured into the hospitality business and opened the “Burger Bar” Drive-in restaurant in Calmar, Alberta. While Nick was away working in the pipeline business, Betty juggled being a mother and business owner. I don’t know how she did it but she did it with amazing grace. Nothing fell through the cracks. After running the business successfully for several years, it was sold and the family moved to Devon, Alberta. It was there, that Betty and Nick saw another opportunity. They built a building on Main Street and opened up “Mademoiselles”, a ladies clothing store. Betty continued juggling being a mother and business owner for several years and then once again sold a thriving business. After a short retirement, she returned to the work force with a pipeline inspection company where she was the office manager. As usual, her impeccable management and organizational skills shone through and she flourished in that position for several years until her real retirement. She loved her “pipeline “years.
As good of a mother as she was, she was equally as good at being a friend and confidant. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family, friends or someone in need. Frequently, the first words out of her mouth were “How can I help”? She was always there, rolling up her sleeves and getting the job done no matter what it might take. You could always count on Betty. She was a tremendous role model and will be missed.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 7th floor at Northwood Terrace (Centre) for the tremendous care over the past several months. A special thanks to 7th floor Clinical Lead Joei Uy, your thoughtfulness and true caring for Mom’s wellbeing didn’t go unnoticed.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2022, 1:00 pm at 69 Crystal Lane (Condo Banquet Room), Sherwood Park, Alberta.
