Obituary For Francis Stanislaus Skerry
Skerry, Francis Stanislaus (Frank): 91 Halifax passed away January 28, 2022 at the QE11 hospital VG site, with family by his side.
He was the last surviving member of the union of James Walter and Mary Ellen (Monaghan) Skerry.
Raised in the North End of Halifax, as a young man Frank was a seaman on the lake boats that travelled the Great Lakes. He then moved on to be a representative for a confectionary company, delivering to corner stores and small grocery stores. Frank retired as an entrepreneur in the printing business, learning the trade and taking over the business that once belonged to his late brother. Many family members have memories of working part time at the shop, making it a true family business.
Frank was the person that everyone called in good times and bad, his mother used to say “call Frank he will know what to do”. Frank and Chris, his wife of 65 years created a home that not only included their two sons’ but became a safe haven for family and friends throughout the years. Theirs was a home of warmth, love, support and never-ending hospitality to all who entered.
Frank enjoyed a game of cards and with his quick mind was a worthy opponent into his 91st year. Win or lose there was a Werther’s candy for everyone at the end of a game.
He liked to keep busy and amazed everyone with all he continued to do daily. He will be missed beyond measure.
He is survived by son’s Patrick (Cindy), Anthony (Shelly); grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Anthony, Breana, Cassidy, Mason and Evan; great grandson Hunter, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary Christina (Chris) MacNeil; siblings; Joseph, Ellen, Frederick (Snook), James, Mary (Babe) and Barbara.
The family wishes to thank everyone that helped make Frank’s days a little easier and to the doctors and nurses that cared for him in his final days.
In keeping with Frank’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Internment will take place at a later date.
The world is a better place because you existed, We are better because you loved us!
