Obituary For Genesta A. Scratch

Age 89 of Halifax, passed away in the QE II on October 29, 2019 after a brief illness.

Genesta was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Anne Luce (Chiasson) Cochrane and her former husband Thomas.

Genesta is survived and will be missed by her children Cindi (Bill) Toszak, San Diego, California and Dave (Theresa) Scratch, Lower Sackville; grandchildren Bryan Toszak, Calgary, Alberta; Kris (Melissa) Toszak, San Diego, California; Dylan (Karen) Scratch, Halifax, N.S. and Sarah (Steve) Thurbide, Lower Sackville, N.S.; and her 9 great grandchildren Ethan, Landon, Kyan and Ronan Toszak; Nehiley, Madia and Zoelle Scratch; Paige and Davis Thurbide. Genesta retired from the Halifax Dockyard where she met lifelong friends Diane Thompson and Mike Roach.

The family would like to thank the paramedics and staff of the QEII for the care and compassion Genesta received. There will be no service by request. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice. Genesta gave to them all. Sad to lose “Baba” but so lucky to have had her in our lives.

    I remember your mother. Your family lived in Spryfield and I was Cindi's friend. She and your father were friends with my family for many years. I am so sorry for your lose.

    back in the st. agnes school days genesta taught me how to solve a cryptoquote which i do to this day ! many a morning i would think of her while i had my tea and she had her coke which didn't seem in keeping with her stunning complexion ?? I would love to be in touch with you again cindi here at the dawn of our seventies...i'm in dartmouth @902-456-8204 cel and planning to visit california this winter.     My condolences to Genesta's family. Genesta and my mother Yvonne worked together at Base Supply at the Dockyard for many years and they were also great friends. Rest in Peace Genesta
