Obituary For Janet Marie Langille (McNamara)
Janet Marie (nee McNamara) died peacefully with family by her side on April 4 at age 83 after her courageous and feisty battle with cancer. Janet was born in Halifax and the eldest daughter of Catherine Marie Petrie and Howard Walter McNamara. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Victor, sister Pauleen (Seminoff) and long- time partner Thomas Picco. She is survived by her sister Linda (Neville), her loving and much loved children Donna (Neil Chambers), Lori (Werner van der Velden), Jim (Arlene Leblanc), her adored and adoring grandchildren Derek, Katie, Jacob and Max, nieces, a nephew and former spouse Roland Langille. Mom worked at the Halifax Board of Education, volunteered at the White Cross Centre (Mental Health), Meals on Wheels, canvassed for numerous causes including the Heart and Stroke and Lung Associations. Mom championed many Rainbow Haven Camp Kool Aid stands held by her children as she had been a camper there as a child. We fondly remember all the home made fudge being bought up by Ronnie Cooper- a South End legend. A highlight trip for her was to go with her son to pay respects to her father (served in the West Nova Scotia Regiment and died during WW2) who was buried at the Moro River Cemetery in Ortona, Italy. Mom was funny and charming with a social personality and had a special way with people of all walks of life. She was kind and thoughtful, loved a good party and was the Queen of celebrations complete with the decorations and outfits to match. Mom was a good friend, partner, daughter, sister, community member and mother who will be dearly missed -“love you to the moon and back” mom/gram. Gratitude goes out to Dr. Hasegawa and the 4th floor Cancer Care Team, the 7A VGH Palliative Care Team, the staff at Northwood on 2 Manor, VON and Heidi Byrne; friend extraordinaire. At mom’s request there will not be a service. Donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, NS division or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society- Atlantic Region.
