Obituary For Joan Sarah Horton (Webber)
Joan Sarah Horton (Webber) passed away peacefully at Dartmouth General Hospital on September 19th at the age of 83. Joan was her usual independent self right to the end.
Joan was born in Halifax and spent her childhood on North Street where, at 7 years old, she met her best friend Marie. She has been her longest and dearest of friends. In 1958 she married Stan Horton and started her family. As a Navy wife there were lots of travels from one end of Canada to the other and back again. With five boys she spent her time at home trying to keep them out of trouble. She brought them all up with a loving (and sometimes stern) heart. She did a great job. You will be hard pressed to meet five finer men. They are all a wonderful reflection of her love. Once the baby (John) was old enough, she started a job at Zeller’s in Thunder Bay and then transferred to the Zeller’s in Bedford, NS. She remained there until her retirement. She loved working there and made lots of friends in her time there.
Joan had lots of interests. She was very involved in the Lower Sackville Legion, RCL Calais Branch 162. Joan and Donnie, her dear friend, played darts there for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lower Sackville Legion. This legion is full of wonderful caring and close individuals and we know she will be missed and always thought of with warm and loving memories. She also enjoyed her years spent at Riverlands Campground and travelling to visit her boys who are scattered across Canada.
Joan also loved sports - any and everything sports related. Curling was her favorite so if it was on the TV, forget trying to get her attention. A lot of her friends may be surprised at this but she was an amazing curler and an avid basketball player in her day!
She will be dearly missed by all of us.
Predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Lillian Webber as well as her brothers Calvin, Elmer (Bud), and her sister Rita. Survived by her brothers Ken and Murray as well as her sons. Stanley, Roger (Trish), David (Cindy), Rob (Sherri) and John. Her 8 grandchildren Ricky (Allison), Leah (Kris), Mitchell (Jennifer), Tyler (Becky), Amber (Mike), Jacob, Sarah and Connor as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
Please feel free to leave your thoughts, memories or special moments you may have shared with Joan.
We will be having a private family gathering to honor our mother at a later date when Covid rules allow.
In lieu of flowers or donations do something kind for yourself or someone else in honor of Joan’s memory.
Condolences
