Obituary For Kenneth Joseph Blackburn

It is with heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother, and true friend to so many. Kenneth Joseph Blackburn, age 80 passed away peacefully 1:30am on December 24th 2021 at the QE2 in Halifax, NS. Born in Halifax, NS, he would move to Giants Lake, NS with his family where he helped on the farm until he was 17 then joined the military where he served 23 years in the Navy and Air Force. Ken was always proud of his duties in the military which took him all over the world. He met his future wife Myrna while stationed in Shelburne, NS. From there Kenneth was posted to Lahr Germany, then to Trenton Ontario. He always worked very hard for his family. In 1985 Ken retired and would later move back to Shelburne NS where he worked a variety of jobs including Town Councillor. In 1994 Ken moved back to Halifax NS where he worked as a commissionaire for many years until fully retiring. From there Ken found his greatest comfort and happiness serving as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was baptized in 2000. This would become top priority to him and the level of passion, love and peace he found therein was inspiring. Ken loved his heavenly father with his whole heart. Kenneth was a class act in every way. Brilliant, loving, generous, compassionate, selfless, righteous, fair and true, and always had a joke and a smile. He adored his family completely. He loved to treat, surprise, and spend all the time he could with us. He was a true people person and spent his life helping everyone he could asking nothing in return. Even while lying in his hospital bed his concern was for everyone else.

Ken would never want anyone to grieve for him. Rather, he would want us to recall the innumerable good memories he left us with and rejoice in the wonderful life he lived and the love he had for us all. Ken will be forever remembered by everyone fortunate enough to meet him.

Ken is predeceased by parents Margaret & Cecil Everett, sister Joyce and sister Helen Wiper. Survived by wife Myrna, Son John and his wife Lenora and granddaughters Emily, Melanie, and Natalie. Son Sean and wife Theresa and grandchildren Cassidy and Daniel. Ken will be forever loved and missed by us all.

Donations can be made in Ken's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Service will be held Sat Jan 1st 2022 at 3:00pm on zoom. Id number 820 9416 6488 Password 864046

On behalf of my late husband (Carl) and his living sisters (Muriel & Jean) I express sincere sympathy to Kenny's wife and family on his passing in December. They have fond memories of Kenny as he grew up in Giant's Lake, Guysborough Co. during the summer months. Carl (my husband) kept in contact over the years with Kenny as a dear friend. May God bring you peace and comfort during this time of bereavement. Sincere regards Hazel Kennedy Sorry to be so late with this. It was just brought to my attention today.

My condolences to Myrna and family. I knew Kennie growing up in Giant's Lake, where we attended a one room schoolhouse, and always had good memories of our times together, swimming in the lake, and skating on it in the winter. And he was good to share his bike with the rest of us. Rest in Peace. Hugh Sullivan

Dear Myrna, Sean, John and family, We are thinking of you at this time , we were very sorry to hear about Ken. We remember his laugh and one of his favourite saying when we would ask him how he is doing: " I'm not the best, but there's none better!" He was the best. We never met anyone who could smile through trouble like he could. We hope you'll be comforted in this difficult time. We look forward to seeing him again. Love from Jonathan, Shirley and Sophia
