Obituary For Malcolm Bayne

Cancer is brutal, cruel and relentless, and on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 2 am, after a hard- fought battle, cancer won and took Malcolm Bayne from us.

What it couldn’t take was a legacy of memories. Malcolm lived a long life and will be remembered by all who knew him as kind, caring and generous. While often quiet, he had a great sense of humour and wit.

He began his career with Cable and Wireless, then moved to Canada and worked for Canadian Overseas Telecommunications Corporation, later Teleglobe Canada, where he made many lifelong friends. After an early retirement, he kept busy by working in real estate, and in Quality Control for H&R Block. He then became a volunteer with the Community Income Tax program, the Halifax Military Family Resource Centre, and the Tartan Team at the Stanfield International Airport.

Malcolm was a member of the British Automobile Touring Association of Nova Scotia and enjoyed going on road trips in his 1976 MGB. He loved family, friends and dogs, especially his grand-dog Pipp. He spoke numerous languages and welcomed opportunities to speak to people, especially in Portuguese.

Born on May 22, 1934, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Malcolm lived in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Malta, Peru, Nigeria and Montreal before moving to St. John’s, Newfoundland, where he met and married Mary (Patricia) Bayne (nee Bartlett). The family later lived in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, and in 1979, moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where they have resided since then. Malcolm is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Tara Lynn, sister-in-law Jean Bayne, nieces Emily Bayne and Rebecca Bayne, and great nephews Jack and Sam. He was predeceased by his daughter Dana Rose, father James Court Bayne, mother Marjorie Huntley Bayne, brother Jim, and nephew Kieran.

Upon Malcolm’s request, his body has been donated to the Dalhousie University’s Human Body Donation Program where it will be used to assist medical students in the study of anatomy and medical research. Malcolm did not want a funeral, but once gathering limits ease, we will plan a memorial celebration. Please email tarabayne@gmail.com to be notified of the memorial celebration.

A special thank-you to Dr. Robert Oliver and his staff for their kindness to Malcolm and Patricia.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a financial donation to the Dalhousie Human Body Donation program, or to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation. (To donate to the Dalhousie Human Body Donation Program, please contact Jessica at 902-494-6850

A wonderful tribute to a fine gentleman. I was saddened to hear of Malcolm's passing. I will remember Malcolm as a true gentleman with a sharp intellect and a keen interest in everything life offered. I enjoyed our chats at the airport and we found that we shared a love of languages. In his role as a Tartan Team volunteer, he often used these language skills to assist travellers, but mostly he went above and beyond with kindness to ensure they had the best airport experience possible. Pat and Tara Lynn, I am so sorry for your loss and extend to you my sincere condolences. As you grieve, I hope you find comfort in the many cherished memories of your beloved husband and father. In sympathy, Kelly Corbett
