Obituary For Marilyn Lynn Mahoney (Duckworth)

Marilyn Lynn (Duckworth) Mahoney age 69 of Lower Sackville, NS passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax with family by her side.

Marilyn was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1955. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William (Bill) and her children Melissa (Greg Corcoran) and Derek and grandchildren Isabelle, Zoe, Madelyn and Christian.

She is also survived by her mother Barbara (Clive) Duckworth, sisters, Shirley Morris, Betty Kenney, Sandra McKeough and brothers David, Michael, John and Chris Duckworth.

She was pre-deceased by her father Frank Duckworth and brothers James (Jimmy), Joseph (Joey) and sisters Margaret (Chippy) and Barbara (Lulu).

Marilyn grew up in Yarmouth and worked in the hospitality and healthcare industries during her working career. Throughout her life, Marilyn lived in many places in Canada including Halifax, Saint John, NB, Calgary, AB, and Ottawa, ON, following her husband around to wherever his work took him.

Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She adored her children and grandchildren and wished she could have been able to do more with them in recent years but her physical limitations prevented this.

Marilyn loved to travel in Canada, U.S. and Europe. She loved the trip to Santorini, Greece in 2009 for Melissa and Greg’s wedding. She always referred to it as the “trip of a lifetime”. She also loved meeting her father’s side of the family in Liverpool, England (St. Helen’s) in 1989. She had never met any of her father’s relatives previously.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed going to various music concerts and theatre productions with her family. This included many Rolling Stones concerts, Eric Clapton and Santana.

Her favourite saying was “I’m hangin’ in there” whenever she was asked how she was doing. In recent years she endured a very painful and restricted life due to multiple broken bones. (Osteoporosis). She was a very strong, determined person.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Donald K Walker, Funeral Directors. There will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be held later in the spring in Yarmouth.

Memorial donations can be made to your charity of choice. Condolences can be emailed to mahoney@eastlink.ca
