The family of Mary Braid sadly announces that she passed on peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary April 19th, 2020. Mary was born May 1st, 1924 in Halifax to Cecil and Dorothy LeMoine. Mary grew up in the north end and graduated from Bloomfield School in 1941. She went on to work with the CNR which she enjoyed until 1951. She was a graceful, lively, kind lady who was the life of a party and loved to tell a joke. Mary was a keen bridge player, curler, bowler and loved to dance. She was loved and appreciated by all who knew her. Mary loved travelling on summer holidays with the family. After retirement, she and Nelson traveled widely and enjoyed many cruises. Mary met Nelson Braid, her future husband, in 1943 when his ship was in Halifax waiting to join a convoy. Nelson came to Canada in 1947 and they married in 1949. She is survived by her husband Nelson and three children David (Marion), Robert (Dawn) and Holly and three grandchildren Andrew, Taylor and MacKenzie. Special thanks to the 7.3 Neurology Department for their care. A commemoration of Mary's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Will never forget this beautiful lady especially for her always having jokes to share, her bright soul and kind heart. I've had the pleasure of seeing her in passing via dr office or in the grocery store before she passed. With Nelson by her side they always stopped for a chat.

Nelson, it was such a pleasure to meet both you and Mary. My mom, Pauline Etter, sister to your close friend Dorothy Hill, always had such fun with you both and spoke so fondly of you. When I meant you both, I could see why. You were such a loving couple and certainly knew how to enjoy a good laugh. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know you have a treasure of wonderful memories. I pray they carry you through this difficult time.

Back in the late 1940's I traveled first by tram, then by the new electric coach, to my job at CGE on Hollis St.. Mary and Nelson Braid often were on the same coach though I never knew their names. But every day that they traveled on the same coach I did, it brightened my day. They were always so happy! And I don't think they ever saw anyone else on that coach except each other. Some time later I learned their names from my sister, who worked at the Telephone Co. Perhaps one of them worked there too and Barb knew them. In the sad days we've had here in Nova Scotia this past week it lightened my mood to remember the two happy travelers from so long ago. I'm sorry, really sorry, for the loss you are feeling at this time but so glad to know that they had so many happy years together. I can easily see the Mary I remember in the picture of her in the paper. Sincere sympathy, Margaret Annand

Mary & Nelson would come into the restaurant that I worked at, they always had lots of gift cards and would say "what do I want to eat this time? " They like their food & their coffee hot and it was a pleasure to bring it to them. They always looked for me when they came in, and it always brought a smile to my face. She loved to tell me that she was in her 90s and I loved to hear her secret of a happy life and even funnier, a happy marriage LOL I will truly miss seeing her. My condolences, and if anyone can bring her husband into Cora Clayton Park when this pandemic is all over I would love to see him. Best Lindsay Henman
