Obituary For Maureen Friis

The family of Maureen Friis are saddened to announce the unexpected death of our Mom,Grandma and Great-Grandma on October 26 th at South Shore Regional Hospital.

Mom was born and raised in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of Daizie and William Dargie and the youngest of 4 siblings.

Mom had aspirations of becoming a nurse, but fate intervened when she met a handsome young naval recruit from Ontario training in Cornwallis, by the name of George Friis. They were soul mates and were married for 64 years until Dad’s passing in 2020. Mom loved to bake and no one left their house without some cookies or lemon loaf. She spent winters counting the days when they could open their cottage in Porters Point and dreaded the day when they would have to close it up for the season. Mom loved hummingbirds, a good yard sale, puzzle books and sunsets. Most important was always our family.

She is survived by her daughters Cindy Harley Williamson (David) Kentville, Heidi Friis Lundrigan (Darrell) Halifax Grandchildren Jason Harley (Erin) Toronto, Jenna Harley Bradley (Nathan) Kentville, Bryan Lundrigan (Carolyn) Louisiana, Amanda Lundrigan, Dartmouth and Great Grandchildren George, Logan, Declan and Oliver. She was pre-deceased by her husband George and youngest daughter Sheila.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to the Health Care Workers that helped to keep Mom and Dad in their own home as long as possible and the amazing staff of the South Shore Regional Hospital for their outstanding compassionate care of our Mom at the end of her life’s journey..

Cremation has taken place with a service of internment at a later date.

Donations in memory to the South Shore Regional Hospital Mental Health Unit, Bridgewater, N.S.

Noreen and I met Maureen once when she and George visited us for lunch many years ago.I will miss talking with her on the phone. When George passed I promised Maureen I would keep in touch. We did, when I called every six/seven weeks. We had some great chats.Maureen and George were lovely people-salt of the earth. RIP Maureen

Our hearts go out to all the families of Maureen! Our deepest Sympathy and Condolesense to all. We visited with both George and Maureen a few times at the cottage and had to go visit with them. When we had come down from Ontario to visit with family in Kentville! They sure did love the cottage! Nothing doing but we had to come over for lunch. They never did get over Sheila death! And I know with talking to Maureen. She was sure missing George! But they are now all together again. Keep all those wonderful Memories you all have. They will help to get you all thru this. They were both ever so proud of their families. Talked all the time of the Grandchildren. You are all in our thoughts!

My deepest condolences to the family. Although I never met Mrs Friis, knowing some of her amazing family says a lot about who she was. My thoughts are with you all. Darren
