Obituary For Olive Caroline Poole
Poole, Olive Caroline July 16, 1934- March 9, 2022 Olive, loving wife of John passed away exactly two years’ to the day that the love of her life left us. Blessings are disguised in many ways. Words cannot express the anguish she endured being isolated for the entire pandemic after losing her life partner. Mom not only prevailed but some how became stronger. Diagnosed with a debilitating disease which by all estimates would end her life, she endured and in fact, at times, seemed to be reversing her age. The last two years were tough, but always the one for looking good, the Vardy often came out in her. Insisting on getting dressed up daily; earrings, necklaces and still picking out every coordinated outfit. No one was allowed to do her nails other than Rhonda, which turned out to be amazing quality time. She insisted on red polish which drew compliments from her resident friends and a smile on her face. Every new blouse had to meticulously selected for her special visits with her family. In the end her memory wasn’t the greatest, but nothing a guitar couldn’t get her to remember her favorite oldies and sing every word. It was son and mom musical hour and a memory that I will carry forever.
Although mom never held traditional job roles, she was a champion in foster childcare for much of her life. As a young man, I would never be surprised to come home and find that for that night, or many more to come, that there was a new brother or sister in the house. We do not know the exact number of children that mom and dad cared for, however, I do remember one little boy named Adam who she particularly became attached to, and he literally became a part of our family. Adam was eventually adopted to another family, which I know broke mom’s heart. What does it say about a person that can get a knock on the door in the middle of the night to rescue a very frightened child? My mom would open her arms as if they were her own, often bathing and feeding them in the middle of the night. Dad was right there holding the pom-poms…
Through her entire life, this love and inclusivity was not the exception, but the norm. Even the twelve years that mom and dad were in the Magnolia Continuing Care home, children were the catalyst for making her smile. She so loved all her family, the many nieces, and nephews who were always there for her and always were such an important part of her life. Anytime family was around, mom was very happy and glowed.
Olive is predeceased by her loving husband John, and sons Ernie and Berkley. Survived by son Bill, (Glenda), granddaughters, Teri-Lynn (Justin) and Amanda, (Brad), great grandchildren Makenzie and Madelyn and son, Terry (Rhonda).
The family would like to thank all the wonderful employees at the Magnolia Continuing Care home for their tremendous care and friendship.
A service well be held at a later date and announced here
