Obituary For Orville Burrell

We are saddened to announce the passing of Orville Burrell aged 87, on August 16, 2024. Orville was born to Arthur and Hazel (Morrell) Burrell of Turtle Creek, New Brunswick. He was the fourth of their five children. His younger sister Helen Weir (Eric) and older brother Robert (Theresa) still live in Turtle Creek.

Orville came to Nova Scotia in 1959 to open the FINA Station in Bedford. He lived the rest of his life in the Halifax area with his wife Helena,(Lambert) his daughter Pauline (Murray), his favourite son in law Joe Murray and his treasured granddaughter Meghan. Dad loved boating and being at our cottage that he built in Tatamagouche. Summers were spent with many friends and family in and on the water in Barrachois Harbour.

Besides his family, Orville loved cars, especially Chryslers. He obtained his mechanic’s licence in Toronto, Ontario in the fifties and spent his career working at a variety of dealerships in the Halifax area. He was the service manager at Dartmouth Dodge for over 20 years and retired from there as a part owner. Dad could fix cars and just about anything else! His skills were valued by many friends over the years and all of his neighbours in their retirement park in Florida.

Orville is survived by his daughter Pauline Murray, son in law Joseph Murray, grand-daughter Meghan Murray (Arron Griffieon) and great grand-daughter Rey Murray. He is also survived by his son Orville Arthur Burrell and daughter in law Heather McDavid,as well as his daughter Eileen of New Brunswick. Orville was predeceased by his brothers Jack and Raymond, as well as, his first wife Elenor (Weir) the mother of Orville and Eileen. His loving wife of almost 60 years, Helena (Lambert) Burrell passed away in 2019.

Thank-you to the caring staff at the Halifax Infirmary who took care of dad since May 20th. A celebration of life will be held at Inn on The Lake,Fall River Nova Scotia on Thursday, October 3rd at 4:00pm.

My condolences to Orville family for their loss. I worked for Orville at Dartmouth Dodge and always respect him as a manger. We remained friends over the years and enjoyed our get to together at McDonalds in Sackville. Rest in peace. Ed Goodie

Our sincere condolences to Orville's family during this time of sorrow. Orville mentored my brother Ronald Parnell to become a mechanic just like him. They started working at Tanner's Chrysler and then they were together all through their Dartmouth Dodge years working as mechanics. Orville taught Ronald and were both master minds in fixing anything and everything. They're together again in Heaven and I'm sure both are up there now concocting more ideas of how to do this or that on Chryslers. Orville treated our family well and was always there to help us with our car issues. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He was respected by all of us. One of the good old Chrysler/ Dodge guys...... Deborah & Rod Fitzpatrick and the Parnell Family.

My condolences to the family of Orville Burrell . I worked with Orville at Dartmouth Dodge for many years. He taught me all I knew about the auto service business and we enjoyed many times outside of the shop. I used to enjoy weekend visits to his cottage. You will be remembered and you will be missed . Your dad fed me my very first lobster and then I had to eat another one. He also gave me my first shot of Jamaican black seal rum which I have never tasted again nor do I need to! I'm so sorry for your loss, but I know that you are grateful for the long life he lived with and for you. Much love. Sandra

So many memories of your Dad at the Cottage...always fixing something, mowing the massive lawn, being our designated driver for Octoberfest year after year, making us Caesars for cocktail hour. We had so much fun suntanning on the Bow Rider while your Dad would go out of his way to hit the waves full on so we would get splashed as much as possible. It seemed there was always someone dropping by the Cottage needing Orville's help with something or other. And of course i can't forget your Dad's hidden talent...the ability to "Orvillize" just about anything. When I picture your Dad he will be riding his tractor (the John Deere...not the other one) mowing too much lawn.
