Obituary For Richard Bruce MacKinnon

MACKINNON, Richard Bruce, Age 52, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2021. Bruce is survived by his brother Blaine (Gillian) and nephew Daniel. He was predeceased by his parents Dan and Sylvia MacKinnon.

Bruce took a wandering path through life and to try and capture in a few short paragraphs the people he met, the places he’s been and the lives he touched is impossible. From Lower Sackville to Fort MacMurray, Shefferville to Shediac, he’s left behind friends and family who will miss him tremendously. Stories of his quick wit and the lengths he’d go to get a laugh would fill volumes; words describing his compassion and kind nature equally so. Attempting to capture these would be a very long and diverse account and would only scratch the surface of who he was and what he meant to each of us. We encourage everyone to add comments, anecdotes and photographs to celebrate Bruce’s life. His ashes will be spread privately by the family at a later date.

Donations in Bruce’s memory can be made to an animal shelter or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

Words will never convey the sudden loss of our dear, sweet Bruce who came into our lives and hearts and for that, we will always be truly thankful. Bruce once made a divine potato salad that could feed the five thousand and Belgian Chocolate waffles that melted straight into our daughter's heart.  We will always love you Bruce, Rest in Peace.

I have been thinking about Bruce since I found out that he had passed away. We lived across the street from Bruce, and his family since he and my son Robb were 2 years old. So many memories have been flooding my mind, mostly good, and funny times. There were times for sure when Sylvia and I wanted to put these two best friends in a for sale box. They played together in the mud with their trucks and dinkies and jumped off the side of the deck in the deep snow, attended the same schools and were usually found side by side somewhere. Dickey Drive was a street of young parents with young kids and the MacKinnons and the Kellys were exactly that. Losing Bruce so suddenly was like losing a family member and one who leaves us with so many happy and crazy memories. We will remember you always Bruce and will have stories to tell for many years to come. Rest in peace sweet man.

Bruce and I worked together years ago at the westin, we've always kept in touch. He was the kindest, sweetest man, with a heart of gold. He was always gentle in his inquiries about culture, religion, and had a thirst to explore and learn. He was so loving and always had a big smile on his face. Rip Bruce, you will be greatly missed!
