Obituary For Robert Stephen Leeds

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our brother/uncle, on February 7, 2022 at the Victoria General Hospital, palliative care unit, after a short battle with cancer.

Robert was born on February 28, 1954 in Halifax, the son of the late William B. and Dorothy P.(Briand) Leeds. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School. He was employed in the optical business for a number of years, and at the time of his retirement he was working with Armdale Electric. In his younger years his passion was for field hockey. He loved travelling for tournaments (and the after parties). He made many lasting friendships in these years. He was also into darts and played on a couple of teams through the years. Robert was a “ what you see is what you get “ kinda guy. Strongly opinionated and strongly principled, but he also had a softer, caring side that was seen much more as we aged.

Robert is survived by his sister Donna O’Neill (Frank) and Jeanette Leeds (late David Oickle). Nieces and nephews; Cheryl Leeds (Wayne Moulton), Ryan Leeds, Philip Shea and his daughters Amanda, Jessica and Samantha, Natasha Russell and her daughter Alaina all of HRM, Nicole Maurice (Jody) and their children Carter Maurice and Emily Nauffts, Jason Stothart (Deb) and brother in law Bill Stothart (late Carol) all of Ontario. Robert is also survived by his dear friend Henry Mah, who has been by his side since his diagnosis. Henry, there are not words to express the love and gratitude we all feel for you. Thank you is not enough.

Besides his parents Robert was predeceased by his brothers Randy and Ricky Leeds, his sister Carol (Leeds)Stothart and nephew Shawn Stothart

A special thank you to the staff of the V.G. 7A for the care you all gave him in his last couple of weeks. Cremation has taken place . Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

I am deeply saddened to hear about my friend Robert 's passing. We worked together at Armdale Electric and even after his retirement he would call me at least once a month. I am going to miss his calls and his phone message " Yo Dale. Its me Robert. Just thought I would check in on you and see how you are doing...,. ". Robert , indeed , had a side that was soft hearted and he was caring and loving while being a faithful friend. You will be sadly missed. I just want to say thank you for all the beautiful words and memories of my Uncle Robert. There were many tears while reading all the memories. It also made me very happy to know how many people really loved him and how many friends he had. It has been very hard the last few months but I am so happy that I was able to be there with Robert. Although most days I know I was as he would say "a little too motherly "which meant your getting on my last nerve. But he always tried to give a slight grin/smile so not to hurt my feeling. And always thanked me for all I did for him, so appreciative even when he was so sick. Rob, I love and miss you so much. I also want to thank Henry who has been by Roberts side everyday since be became ill. Henry you were an amazing friend and he loved you and appreciated you more then you will ever know. You are a very special person and we're so happy you found your way into our lives. You will always be in our hearts and part of our crazy family, love and appreciate you. XOX

Saddened by the death of my friend Bob. I've known him since the early 70s when we played field hockey and darts on the same team. We shared many drinks and experiences at his place by the Commons in the 70s , on hockey trips, and later on at his place in Dartmouth. Unfortunately, I could not spend time with him during his last days due to COVID but we got to speak a couple of times. As has been said before, with Bob, what you see is is what you get. No pretences. He was a kind, thoughtful man who never forgot people's birthdays or simply called to see how "Mellowman" was doing. My condolences to the whole family. Rest in peace my friend.

So sad to lose Bob, we enjoyed many field hockey games and trips and parties over the years! Bob was very friendly off the field and a tiger on the field. Rest in peace, good buddy!

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Robert. I knew Robert, briefly in his later years. However, I mostly knew him, when we lived backyard to backyard, Harris Street, to Woodill Street. I was dating his sister, Jeanette, in the mid 60's. Robert, would have been 13/14 years old at that time. He was a good looking young man, with a great personality, and I always enjoyed his company. The last time I saw Robert, was at my mother's Shirley's, funeral. He came all the way from Dartmouth to the Halifax Funeral Home, by bus, to say goodbye. I will never forget that he thought so much of mom, to ensure he paid his respects. I would love to do the same, but unfortunately, we are living in Ontario, and with covid, cannot be there to pay our respects, in person. Robert, I miss you, and will always remember your great smile. Rest in peace, my friend, you will always be remembered. Rick and Colleen Ward Kingston, Ontario

My condolences to the entire Leeds clan. For those who haven't met me, I was one of the Field Hockey crew with Robert and we stayed friends forever. Bobby was unique, to say the least and I will miss him dearly. He never missed a call at Christmas or on my birthday. Nova Scotia Field Hockey lost one of its most colourful alumni. Although I moved away 40 years ago, my annual visits home ALWAYS included time with my dear friend. I am deeply saddened, as I am sure you all are too.
