Obituary For Sandra Zwaan

A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Sandra passed away peacefully on April 2nd at the age of 80, surrounded by her loving family. Sandra's zest for life, music, and art, along with her compassion and empathy for others, hasn't ended but is carried on through those who were blessed to know her and be touched by her kindness.

An inspiration to many, Sandra was a breast cancer survivor who continued to battle multiple heart conditions. She was the true embodiment of strength and courage, dealing with all that came her way with such gentle grace.

It was the small joys in life that brought Sandra the greatest happiness; time with her family and friends, swimming in her pool, sharing her delicious baked goods, singing with her sisters, and bringing smiles to others through her music, most recently over the past few years at the Enfield Legion.

Sandra was the daughter of Dale and Manola Sim (Tufts Cove), and is survived by her husband of 61 years, Epke, children, Douglas (Gina), Dale (Nancy), Amey (Gerard), grandchildren, Marco, Morgan, Corey, Taylor, Vanden, Ethan, and Autumn, and great-grandchildren, Matthius and Malik. She is also survived by her sisters, Deborah McKay and Joanne McClair and predeceased by sisters Gwen, Lorna, Alta and Marie, and in infancy, sister Manola and brother Branton.

Sandra's wish is for loved ones and friends to gather, not to mourn, but to celebrate her beautiful life. We ask that those who attend her service, please wear bright colors; Sandra loved color and all things sparkly. A service will be held on April 5th at 11:00 am at the Elmsdale Baptist Church located at 510 Hwy 2, Enfield. A reception will follow the service, in the church. The family wishes to extend thanks to the Enfield Legion for providing the catering. We also encourage anyone who wishes to bring along an instrument or sing a song at the reception in her honour, to please do so. Service and reception are wheelchair accessible.

Donations can be made to the Sunshine Room at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. (https://www.qe2foundation.ca/sunshine-room)

I am thinking of the Zwaan family and sending my condolences to you all. Losing a parent is like losing a part of you. I have so many fond memories of being with Sandra, going to her music events, visiting with her sisters, spending time with the family. She was truly a woman who gave herself to others and was always so very generous and kind. She will be so very missed.
