Obituary For Shirley Catherine Woods

WOODS, Shirley Catherine – 72, Cole Harbour, HRM, passed away in Dartmouth General Hospital on Thursday July 25, 2019. Born in Tangier, HRM, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Ellen (MacKay) Mason. Shirley lived at the Owl’s Head lighthouse as a child before the family moved to the “Old Homestead” in Meagher’s Grant. Shirley loved the outdoors, whether fishing in the Musquodoboit River or at the camp in Lake Charlotte, or in tending her flower garden. Shirley truly enjoyed puzzles, including crosswords, jigsaws, and more recently puzzles on her iPad. Shirley was also very creative, both in the kitchen when baking or canning preserves, and in knitting and handcrafts, and shared her love for crafts with all her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her loving husband Albert, her daughter Kathy (Steve Toohey), her son James (Melissa), and grandchildren Morgan, Joshua, Zachary, Emma and Hailey; by sisters Carol (Robert) Hall, Beverley Hudson, Bertha Finlay; brothers Arthur (Belinda), Edward (Karen), Andrew (Virginia), Percy (Simone), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Helen, Florence, Della; brothers Douglas, Donald, Oscar Jr., Wilfrid. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be made at http://www.donaldkwalker.ca.
