Shirley AKA Nanny Skiba was born on October 21, 1925 in Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband Stan ( aka Skiba ) parents Elizabeth and Herbert Murphy, brothers Stanley, Gerald, Ronald, Donald and Bobby, and son Bruce. She is survived by her sister Barbara, brother Philip ( Cheryl ) daughter Sharon ( Mike ), daughter-in-law Janet, grandchildren Heather, Lisa, Jennifer, Kristopher and Charlotte and great grandchildren Hannah, Riley, Kaelynn, Samantha, Quinn and James.
Shirley lived a very active and independent life and was a permanent fixture at the flea markets from the Forum, Penhorn and Sackville. She was a force to be reckoned with and could swindle her way into any deal. She loved to dance and even won dance contests in her early years.
Shirley also loved to travel and has endless stories to tell about her adventures. She had the gift of gab and loved a good “friendly debate”.
Shirley may have been small in size, but she sure was mighty and feisty. She will be missed dearly by many.

Philip Murphy
My memories of Shirley go back to the 50's when my "big" sister would visit with Skiba, Bruce and Sharon at family occasions. She was always well dressed, beautiful and full of life and conversation. She loved to party. Shirley loved to travel and after Skiba passed she showed up in various places where I was posted (Carribean and Germany). She always wanted to go out but was so fussy about her eating habits it was difficult to please her. No matter where we were she would say "Philip get me a drink". I loved to argue politics with her and often baited her on particular subjects. She fiercely defended her family and was very combative when Bruce was laid of by MT&T. Many politician feared her words. In her later years, I enjoyed taking her and Barbara out for lunch. She enjoyed getting away from her apartment or North Wood. She especially enjoyed her desserts (particularly coconut cream pie). Shirley lived a long and full life often under hard circumstances but always with vigor. I will miss her.
