Tom Sawyer died March 18, 2019 Cancer won the fight. Tom was born in Clinton, Massachusetts, son of Kenneth and Josephine(Murphy), brother to Judy, Paul, Jerry, Kathy, Sandy and the late Ken and Ritchie Sawyer. He and his sweetheart, Taiya, both attended Hudson High, but never met until forty years later, when Tom visited Nova Scotia with friends Chuck and John. He stayed, he married Taiya, and they had nearly twenty years of happiness together. Everyone who met him felt his warmth, humour, and kindness. His Wednesday morning pool hall pals cherished him. He leaves five siblings in Massachusetts, nieces and nephews Lisa, Joanne, Bob, John, Mark, Matthew, Patrick, Colleen, Meaghan, and Kenlyn. His Nova Scotian family includes stepsons Joshua and Silas, grandchildren Maggie, Jacob and Josh, Kate, and Rosa. He was loved. He will be missed. Thanks to Dr Graham, Dr Lori Wood, the chemo nurses, the palliative care team, and our wonderful oncology nurse, Donna. A service will be held in the lower auditorium of Faith Tabernacle Church, 6225 Summit Street, at 2:00 PM on April 1, 2019.
Taiya and Family - I am so sorry to learn of Tom's passing. Although I was a classmate of Tom's at Hudson High School, I never truly knew this sweet guy until he and Taiya began their time together. I am so happy for him that he had the experience of being part of your lives and family. I'm sure that even though he was sad to leave, he died very happy.

Taiya. Gary and I were so very sorry to learn of Tom’s passing. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have been your neighbors in Aberdeen and to have shared time with you both. Tom was a true gentleman who made the places he was, better places, because he was there. May your many wonderful memories help you to find comfort and peace during this most difficult time! With much love and sympathy, Gary and Betsy Wright

Tom was an incredibly sweet and thoughtful man. During the summers he and Taiya spent in Cape Breton, Tom would go bicycling with our group, The Rolling Crones. While he always started riding with the pack, Tom would periodically slow down to check on the slow riders, sharing gumdrops to give us energy. Tom will always be remembered as our shepherd.

Tom was a jewel who will be sorely missed by his family, particularly his beloved Taiya. Sweet and kind, funny and caring, quiet but attentive. It gave me such pleasure to see them together, so happy and loving. He was a great gift to her. Farewell, Tom.
