Obituary For W. Raymond Hansen
Age 78, passed away at the Geriatric Unit of the Abbey Lane Building on December the 11th 2019. Born in Halifax, N.S. on April 12th 1941, he was the son of the late Martha (Khallil) and Walter Hansen. He is survived by his wife Linda (Pettipas) and son Shane Hansen. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn (David) Innis, loving aunt Doris Hansen, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Raymond's faith was central to his life and he prayed daily for the needs of others. He served the Lord in many capacities within the church over the years. He was a member of the Lay Carmelites and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica, Spring Garden Road in Halifax, N.S. on Friday December 20th 2019 at 10:00 am by Rev. Gregory Agyeman and will be followed by a reception in the church hall. A private burial to take place at a later date at St. Genevieve's Cemetery in
East Chezzetcook. Donations can be made to Chalice, 101-26 Union Street, Bedford, NS B4A 2B5 or a charity of your choice. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on him.
Raymond was an altar server, was an university football player for St. Dunstan's University in Charlottetown PEI, leader of song at Canadian Martyrs Parish in Halifax, Lector at St. Mary's Basilica Cathedral. He was an accountant. He loved his yearly trips to PEI visiting friends and relatives and singing with the choir at St. Peter's while attending mass. He loved the many cruises he went on over the years, especially visiting the homestead of his late mother in-law in Saintfield, Northern Ireland and visiting Aarhus, Denmark the home of his grandfather. He enjoyed all forms of sports especially basketball, football, baseball and hockey. He supported his son's involvement in baseball and basketball. One of his favorite activities each year was dressing up with his stetson and handing out candy at Halloween. He loved his family and was generous to others and loved to talk to anyone anywhere. As a teenager he saved the life of a woman that was drowning at Point Pleasant Park.
