Obituary For Bernard Charles Gordon
GORDON, Bernard Charles, March 14, 1944--August 6, 2024
With great sadness, we announce that Bernard Gordon, at age 80, son of Lillian May Gray and Donald Charles Gordon, died at home where he wanted to be, with Charlotte and Kimberley close by.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 59 years, his beloved Charlotte (Power) Gordon, and daughter Kimberley Gordon. He was predeceased by mother Lillian, father Donald, stepfather Reginald Clattenburg, daughter Karen Gordon (killed by a drunk driver), brother David Gordon. He is survived by siblings Wayne Clattenburg, Audrey, and Ronald.
As a young man, Bernard joined Maritime Tel & Tel in 1963 working in construction. He then became a linesman, worked in Residential Repair, and was later promoted to Business Industry Services. He was responsible for all MT&T wiring, from the ground, up to the top of a Royal Bank building, which he called his building. Bernard later became a manager and spent three years in the Sydney area with several men and two secretaries to supervise.
Bernard was a talented man, building his first house with some help. Retiring back to the country, he maintained a beautiful home and yard in East Ship Harbour. He was a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada), Citizens on Patrol (COPs) for some years, and a member of the Four Harbours Legion Branch.
He was an active man throughout his life, fixing, building and maintaining his surroundings. Very much enjoying the company of others, whether friends, family or coworkers, Bernard engaged in all types of pastimes over the years, including horse shoes, cards, bowling, darts, and building furniture. With fondness and humour, he often recalled stories of family, friends, and the people he worked with. In earlier days, Bernard owned a Baby Cape Islander and spent lots of time on the water with his boat. With family and friends, he had many trips to Wolf's Island and its beautiful sandy beaches.
There are many people to thank; we would especially like to express our gratitude to Lorna Khan, Megan and Nick Rutledge, Connie and Rick Edwards, for all of their help during Bernard's illness. Thanks also to nurses, Nicole, Randy, Alexina, and Terry for their wonderful support, along with the entire palliative care team.
Donations can be made to Dartmouth SPCA, or Bide Awhile. Interment and gathering to take place on September 21, 2024, 2 pm, at Saint Peter's cemetery on Lintlops Road. Friends and family are welcome to our home for a light lunch afterward.
Condolences
