Obituary For Allan MacIntosh Frew
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Allan MacIntosh Frew, who passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born in Corner Brook to Allan Hanson Frew and Gwendolyn Elizabeth (Crocker) Frew and raised in Bishop’s Falls, NL, Dad lived a full and accomplished life marked by his deep love for, and pride in, his family.
Dad was an accomplished geologist, graduating from MUN in 1971, and a Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada. In this role, he took his family throughout Newfoundland and to other parts of Canada as he moved among projects before finally settling in Wedgewood Park (now St. John’s), NL. Fast forward a few decades and Dad moved with Mom to Nova Scotia. They enjoyed retirement in Hammonds Plains and Lantz, until Mom’s passing in 2018. At that time Dad rejoined the workforce and became a Commissionaire. In this profession he came to meet and know more people, many of whom became dear, dear friends.
Beyond his professional life, Dad was an active volunteer, contributing notably to several community and professional organizations throughout his life. He was also an avid golfer who loved being on the course with friends and family, always looking to shoot his age.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife, our mom, Sylvia (Brushett) Frew, daughter Susan Craig, sisters Jean Long and Cherry Corbett, brother Robert (Bob) Frew and nephew Randy Hanson. Left behind with lasting memories are his children: Sonja Frew (Hans Asche), David (Rose), Stephen (Heather), Stephanie Bilodeau (Marc), and Peter (Jackie). Siblings: Heather Myers, Charlie, Gwen Hanson, Ray and Bert. Also survived by sister and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
An eternal optimist, Dad was a genuinely good person, seeing only the best in others and easily gaining friends. His warmth and positive spirit will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral and celebration of Dad’s life will be held on March 24, 2025 at 11:00am at Calvin Presbyterian Church 3311 Ashburn Ave in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Lung NSPEI, or Calvin Presbyterian Church ATTN: Calvin for Kids Breakfast Program.
Rest in peace, Dad. Your love and legacy will live on in the hearts of those you touched.
Condolences
