Rogers, Donald Stewart MacLean Dec 14, 1943 – May 11, 2022 With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Don. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Jeannine (Cormier), his daughters Nancy, Judy and Joyce, his grandchildren Devon, Kyle and Megan, along with his siblings Ernie, Sheila, Mal and Rosemary. Predeceased by his parents Malcolm and Mary and sister Katherine. Don grew up in Bathurst, NB, a place that has forever remained in his heart despite years of living away. Growing up, his biggest passion was sports – baseball, hockey, basketball, golf, curling – he played it all. This love of sports continued throughout his life, he played softball and golf regularly, and also enjoyed darts and pool. He also loved playing cards, especially bridge and crib. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Jeannine Cormier, and over the years they lived in various locations in New Brunswick and Ontario, finally settling in Montreal for many years until moving to Lake Echo, NS. Don was a great lover of music. Music was always playing at home and he often sang along. He had a vast collection of vinyl records, including many of his beloved Elvis. He was a person of keen intellect, always reading and watching news and documentaries, wanting to learn more about the world. He loved nature, enjoyed birdwatching and watching the various wildlife that gathered in his yard in his home in Lake Echo. He took pride in the home he and Jeannine created, spending years landscaping the property to match his vision. He was also a talented builder, having built the deck, a couple of sheds, and Adirondack chairs, often just by looking at something to figure out how to copy it. He loved to cook, perfecting many dishes over the years and often experimenting with new recipes. He was a gracious host and loved to entertain guests. He had a great sense of humour and never took anything in life too seriously, encouraging us all to do the same. Over the last decade or so Don became fascinated by his family history and mapping his ancestry. Years of research led him to write a novel, a piece of historical fiction based on the Rogers’s family journey from Maryland to Nova Scotia in the mid 1700’s. The book was in the process of being published when he passed. But of all of this, his biggest joy by far was his family. He loved having his family around him, especially his grandchildren who were the light of his life. He loved teaching them new things as they grew up. Our hearts are full of memories, he leaves a wonderful legacy of kindness and quiet strength. He will never be forgotten.
