Obituary For Dorothy Arvilla Harvey

HARVEY, Dorothy (Dot) Arvilla: April 1932 - March 10, 2025

Mum, mother-in love, Nanny, sister, sister- in- law and aunt. Dot (as she was known to her friends) left this world at the age of 92 for a far better place. Her Lord called her home on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Born in Queensport, N.S., she was the daughter of Robert and Hattie Ehler. She was predeceased by both parents, husband Karl, partner Clarie of many years, son Ronald, sister Marie, bothers Onslow, Eugene, Patrick, Marvin and Paul.

Dorothy will be greatly missed, but lovingly remembered by sons Wayne (Loretta), Donald (Sheila), and Michael (Donna); cherished Grand daughters Dawn (Joey), Kelly (Chris), Chantel, Holly, Karla (Eric) and Amy; as well as eight great- grand children; sisters Annabelle, Marian, Leona and brothers Robert (Jessie), Willard (Connie) and Harold. She will be missed by best friend Doris and lifelong friend Bill Mont.

As a teen, Dot moved to Halifax to seek employment at 40 Fathoms Fish Plant. Many years later she retired from Sears. Dot was very active in church work and volunteered in many areas. She had a special love for cats and a very expansive doll collection. Dot loved to travel. Even day trips in the car were special to her, with an ice cream along the way. She was known to have a very sweet tooth and greatly enjoyed desserts. She spent a lot of time in her flower garden, doing puzzles and reading.

Dot grew up in a busy household of musical talent. She enjoyed singing with her family and listening to the many instruments. Later in life she would get together with her brothers, sisters and other family members to enjoy music, laughter and memories. She also attended the Harvey family reunion in Ellershouse many summers. She will lay to rest beside her husband Karl in Oak Hill cemetery, on her birthday, April 10 at 1pm.

The family wishes to thank the very kind staff of Northwood 9C in Halifax for loving on her during her stay there with memory loss since July 2023. In your mind's eye you will see her roaming the halls in her wheelchair, with a pleasant smile on her face.

Wayne & Loretta, We are so sorry for the loss of your Mum. Treasure all the special memories of the love she poured into you both. Her kindness and gentleness was evident. You both cared for her with great love and affection over the years, including her in drives and many adventures. I can only imagine how much she cherished those times. Over the last year, your commitment to her wellbeing and care is commendable. If only all mothers had a son and 'daughter' like you. God will richly bless you for honoring your mother and giving of your time and energy without reservation. Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." With love and prayers for your both during this time. Harold & Nikki
