Obituary For Jan Field Nielsen

It is with great sadness that the family of Jan Field Nielsen (Warrant Officer Ret’d) of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia passed away at age 83 at the QE2 Hospital 13 October 2024.

Jan was the son of the late Laurits Christian Hans Nielsen and Violet Marie Nielsen (Field). Born in Drummondville QC, at the age of 16 Jan joined the military as an Apprentice Soldier in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. Later, becoming an Ammunition Technician, Jan travelled abroad throughout his military career. He also served at RCOC School, 34 AOD, 36 AOD (Dundurn), Germany, Egypt, Petawawa, CFAD Angus and CFAD Dundurn. Jan retired 28 Dec 1980 and then commenced employment at CFAD Bedford (Technical Services) from 1982 until his retirement in 2001.

Survived by his wife, Sandra Orman Nielsen, sons Peter David Nielsen, Darryl Scott Nielsen, and daughter Judy Lynn Mackenzie. Stepchildren April Lynn Scott and Ryan Joseph Scott. Grandchildren Taylor, Benjamin, Melanie, Royce and Tristan. Brothers Per Frederick and Christopher Kenneth (Kit Clarke), brother-in-law Bertrand Vogel, and sisters Karen Marie Coates, Katharine Ann Pipe. Niece Erika Pipe (Emmanuel Guilbert) and children Astrid and Soren

Predeceased by sister Kristin Penelope Vogel, brothers- in- law Jon Coates and Robert Pipe.

Jan was also a friend of “Bill W” for 32 years.

He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. A special thank you the staff of 7.4 QE2 Hospital for the excellent care and compassion provided to Jan. A special thank you to his friends at Cannaconnect. He thoroughly enjoyed his visits and chats.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral or service at Jan’s request. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
