Obituary For Matthew Clayton Pardy

Pardy, Matthew Clayton, Age 52. Matt was born in St. John's NF on the 14th of September, 1971 and passed away peacefully on the 27th of February 2024, in Halifax, after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Matthew was surrounded by his family when he passed and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Joyce (Ptolemy) Pardy and 3 children Alexandra (Alex), Eric (Emily) and Emma (Seth). He is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth (Liz)(Downton) and Sam Pardy. Matthew was an only child, and therefore family was also the friends we chose, and he chose John and Stacey Keizer.

Matthew’s love for his family was his number one priority. He supported his children in all their crazy endeavours, and loved his wife Joyce with his whole heart. He cherished all his camping trips, beach trips and just sitting by the fire pit. Matt loved everyone. He could easily have a conversation with anyone at any time. He was a force to be reckoned with. He loved baseball - playing and coaching - scouting, bowling, barbecuing, and gardening. He would help anyone when they would ask, and barely said ‘No’ to anyone and he was a great role model to those who looked up to him.

Matthew was a hard worker, and he worked hard over the years to support his family. For 20 years he worked in the demolition field before he changed jobs and worked Maintenance at the VG. He had a huge kind personality that people enjoyed at both jobsites and he was liked by all.

Prior to his mothers passing, Matt and Joyce began taking over the role of Superintendent of the building he grew up in from his parents. He enjoyed learning many new jobs that came up with this role and he enjoyed looking after building and the family that came with it.

If you knew Matt, he was known to “lick” things. Most times for a reaction, sometimes for a bet. He would regularly tell his wife that she broke him, as when Covid hit, he was told “NO MORE LICKING”. He had said that because of this, he had lost his superpowers.

We would like to thank the Staff from 8A and 8B, 6A IMCU and 3A ICU for all your support during Matt’s treatment. His Leukemia Doctor, Dr Elsawy for all his support. Matthew’s coworkers (family) at the VG for their support, and all our friends, they helped to make his days better.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday March 30th, from 1 pm - 3 pm at the South Woodside Elementary Community Center, 5 Everette St. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

What a great loss of such a great guy. Matt was one of a kind super person with a great big heart. He was very helpful to my son when he moved back to NS, I am forever grateful. We have sooo many wonderful memories with Matt but by far one of my favourites was the time at one of the dances when the Macarena came on and Matt didn't know the actions so he started doing baseball signs. lol. He will live on in our hearts forever. May he RIP 🙏❤️

This is an incredible loss of humanity, for those of us blessed to know Matt throughout the years. I first met Matt through my wife and the sales of Christmas Trees at Twin City Engravers for the Dartmouth Crusaders Rover Crew. Matt was a large jovial fella who easily warmed my spirit with his easygoing manner. Sam and Liz done good with this guy. I'll never forget his love for nature and his deep respect for same said nature, especially spiders. I can't remember the day, but we "Bernie Wile & I" were helping him and his Rover Crew repair a wooden dock somewhere. We were waist deep in water, holding up said dock to replace the legs, when Bernie exclaimed "wow wouldja look at the size of that spider"! Unfortunately for Bernie, he was in the direct path of Matt and the shore. Matt moved like a mad charging moose and Bernie got trampled in the melee. As soon as I heard spider I moved out of the way, I knew what was coming next! We sometimes called Matt, the Moose Monster after this, but only after lining up a clear exit for ourselves 🤣 When Cathy and I decided to build a kit log home, Matt was all hands on deck throwing in his assistance where he could. He rallied the Rovers too assist and I'll never forget him for this, I couldn't say many Navy Sailors ever helped me, like he did, or that the Rovers did. Throughout the years we kept in touch and I admired Matt in how much work he put into balancing work and home life. His was truly a life of "Service". Tobacco down prayers up to our memories and for Joyce, Alex, Emma, Eric and everyone in their Circle of Life.

Cathy and I send of our deepest condolences to all who loved, laughed and cared for Matt. Cathy always told me how nice her landlord was to her when she moved in and after she was here. I met him when Cathy and I moved in together in 2020. Always willing to talk up work and life things with me. Always fixed anything he could for Cathy. She said more than once that he was a Special kind of man. Dedicated to all. Loved by all. Respected by many. A true north end legend I am sure of that. We know he is in a place of no more pain and only wonderful peaceful Memories. Rest easy. The world has truly lost a great man
