Obituary For Michael Peck

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Peck, age 66, of Dartmouth. Mike passed away on March 25, 2024 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the son of Joseph and Joan Peck. He arrived in Canada through Pier 21 in Halifax as an infant. He grew up as a Woodlawn Boy making Dartmouth his home.

Mike’s quest for adventure began at a young age. Hitchhiking across Canada and the United States he took in what life had to offer. His creative vision was demonstrated with his joy for woodworking and his passion for music, especially the Blues. As a self-taught guitar and harmonica player he was known to join in with bands on stages around town. Also known as Biker Mike, he loved and owned many motorcycles, with his most recent project restoring his beloved ‘56 Triumph and riding his Harley with his A’rmunn Clan.

Mike began his career days in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Hull Technician and a Ship’s Diver stationed in both Halifax and Esquimalt. Later becoming a high pressure welder/Ironworker and Steam Power Engineer. Before retiring he worked as a foreman with Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax.

Michael is survived by his son Aaron (Amber) Peck, daughter Marcia Peck and his grandson Elijah Peck, his former wife Cathy, who has remained by his side throughout his illness. He is also survived by his parents Joseph and Joan Peck of Pugwash N.S., sisters Gayle and Jill, brother Daniel as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Cremation has taken place and a private gathering for family will be held for Michael in the coming weeks. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers we encourage donations to The Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetic Association or a charity of your choice.

We would like to thank all the health care workers at the Dartmouth General Hospital, the VG ENT and Oncology specialists who helped and supported Mike through this challenging time.

My sincere condolences to Cathy and family. I have shared many memories with Mike. I was introduced to Mike by Fraser Allen in the 80's and kept in contact ever since. He had given me a beautiful seat for my motorcycle many years ago that I was building and just last year he was building a 1956 Triumph and he ask me if he could possibly have it for his build he couldn't believe I still had it, he was proud of that seat, . He made several trips to Cape Breton on his Harley and he sure to look me up when he came here. One memory I'll never forget was when I,Lucy,Fraser,Kat and Mike made a trip to Halifax in Frasers motor home to see Stompin Tom, we all had a good laugh. Lucy and I will miss him terribly. Rest in Peace Mike. Leo Brown, Lucy Devoe Cape Breton

Cathy and family, deepest condolences to you all. We will miss Mike terribly. The only guy I knew who could have 4 conversations all at once..lol. Loved hearing his funny stories of his travels and his many adventures with his best friend, Fraser Allen. They were two peas in a pod when together, trouble and mischief always followed them, from Crickets to the Hub. Many a nights were filled with laughter, loud music and Budweiser beer! The two of them always reminded me of Spike and Chester cartoon dogs - Mike the big bulldog with a soft heart. Rest in peace Mike. Some comfort is taken knowing you are riding your Harley down the highway with the sun shining upon your back. You will be greatly missed xoxo. Kathleen & Fraser Allen

Sympathies to the family. Im so saddened to hear of Mike's passing. Memories go back to Cricket's daze and the crazy good times. Sooo funny, my 50th birthday will NEVER be forgotten as we laughed till tears fell & gutts were wrenched. Damn he was funny!! I'm gonna miss hearing, then seeing the big blue machine going, tho he had the rebuild. He was sooo proud of the seat regifted back to him. He teared right up over that & I believe it was his favorite part of the bike!! 🙂 A gentle giant, so kind. Door was always open, Led Zepplin cassette handy, a smoke & we had some really good laughs. And some nice heart to heart, honest & open discussions in the final visits. He was a friend when I needed one. Thanks for the friendship Mike, for great laughs, advice, for being authentic & one hell of a guy! Ride in Peace Mike*

Knew Mike from forever...his parents used to to handg with mine back in the day and my brother was born in Belfast as part of the Canadian fleet as well. Mike was a calm and steady guy and a good dude all around. My condolences go out to his sister Gail and his family and friends. PS - boy, didn't he and his buddies enjoy some of my harvests I dropped to him at Crickets back in the day.

I am saddened to hear of Mike's passing. I saw him in the fall while walking by his house. He always came out to say hello. I will fondly remember our pool games and conversations at Cricket's. He was a perfect customer. One Christmas Eve he invited Greg and I back to his house for a drink after closing the bar. He was an awesome host and a kind man.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a part of my life for as long as I can remember. One of my best memories, although I have many, was the time when he took me for a ride on the back of his Harley. I was about 12-13 yrs old then. He used to laugh at me when I'd wear my L.A Raiders coat that had a big raiders symbol on the back. Knowing Mike and the sense of humor that he had, he would say that I was wearing my patch . I think now, that maybe he was telling me that I really wasn't the bad ass that I thought I was at that age. But he would let me have the thought that I was. He taught me the importance of family gatherings, outdoor fun, and most importantly about the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Lol....He enjoyed every opportunity to have a laugh together. Although I'm very sad of his passing, and proud to know of his strength he showed throughout his battle with cancer. I'm glad to know that he is no longer suffering in anyway, and that he found his Stairway to Heaven. Did I mention his love for Led Zeppelin? Mike, you will be missed by so many, and I hope that maybe we'll meet again someday... Much luv brother, Jason Sheaves...

Dear Mike: Thanks for all the memories...When we hitched across Canada many moons ago, you always wanted to sit in the front. May you enjoy the view and the ride; I may be sitting in the back, but the journey with you was great. Much love to you and yours, Richard ...now we don't need to split the botty of wine, it is all yours.

Heartfelt condolences Cathy, Aaron, Marcia and entire family. We consider Mike our family. He has been our neighbour for 25 years. We can honestly say he has been the best neighbor ever and I often told him that. We spent many evenings together with BBQ's backyard fires singing along with Mike playing guitar and harmonica. So many laughs and stories of years passed. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for us and vice versa. When my daughter passed in 2020 I know you were heartbroken and often tried to cheer me up and I thank you so much for that. I know when you see her you will tell her how much we miss and love her. We will truly miss you Mike as a neighbor, family and best friend. Rest easy until we see you again 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️🤗 Chris & Selena ❤️
