Obituary For Glen McClare
Glen McClare, 80, passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2025, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre following a recent diagnosis of brain cancer. Born in Middleton, Nova Scotia, Glen was the son of Gordon and Thelma McClare and grew up in the Annapolis Valley as the youngest of five brothers.
Glen was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marion (2021), and his brothers, John, Kenneth, and Laurie. He is survived by his daughter, Leah (Steve), grandsons, Adrian and Julian Morphy, step-grandson, Keagan Ahier-Scott, brother Lester McClare (Diane), sister-in-law Alice Metevier (Greg) and numerous nieces and nephews.
It was in the Annapolis Valley where Glen met the love of his life, Marion (Veinotte). They were married in 1965, eventually moving to Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia, where they raised their daughter, Leah.
Glen spent his career working for Nova Scotia’s Department of Health. Outside of work, he was deeply involved with Nova Scotia’s curling community for over 30 years—as both a player and a coach. One of his proudest achievements during his coaching career was taking his Junior Women’s team and the Nova Scotia Wheelchair Curling team to national championships. He felt a deep sense of pride and joy at having passed down his love of sport to Leah and his grandson, Adrian.
Summers often found Glen gathered around a campfire, enjoying the simple pleasures of camping and exploring campgrounds across the province, the country and the eastern United States. Many cherished family memories were born from trips to Kejimkujik National Park, a place where Glen and his family returned to year after year for over 50 years. He and Marion also loved their three adored poodles, who brought them countless moments of joy.
Glen’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his cherished friends— Irene Ferguson and her late husband John, Lorraine and Gary Kelly, and Steve Jensen—whose friendship enriched his life and meant so much to him. The family would like to acknowledge Marilyn Munroe, Karen O’Hara, Gael O’Keefe, and Jackie Crouse for their unwavering support and kindness during Marion’s ALS journey, it meant the world to Glen and his family. A special thank you to the dedicated staff at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, who provided such compassionate care during Glen’s final days.
As per Glen’s wishes, his family will honour his life privately. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
