Obituary For Charlotte Ruby Gordon

With deep sadness, we announce that Charlotte (Power) Gordon, at age 78, died peacefully, with her daughter Kimberley and her best friend Lorna by her side.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter Kim Gordon, and brother Wade Power. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard Gordon, daughter Karen Gordon, brother Scott Power, mother Evelyn (Wells) (Power) Cooper, father Ross Power, and loving uncle Earl Power.

Born in East Ship Harbour, she married Bernard in 1964, then settled in Dartmouth to joyfully welcome Karen and Kimberley to their family. Life was busy, building a new house, raising their family, enjoying friends and activities.

As a young woman, Charlotte worked at Nova Scotia Power Commission but then stayed home to raise Karen and Kimberley until they went to school. People person that she was, she then went on to work at a variety of restaurants. She especially enjoyed the comradery of coworkers during these years.

The tragic loss of Karen at the age of 27, having been killed by a drunk driver, cast a long shadow across Charlotte's life. With Bernard at her side, she and Geri Dedrick started the Halifax Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). She also successfully fought to be able to read her victim impact statement in court, which was a significant achievement at that time.

Charlotte and Bernard then focused on building a beautiful home in East Ship Harbour, where Charlotte enjoyed gardening, bowling, dancing, darts, and spending time with family and friends. Music and the sea were also Charlotte's passions, and her green thumb was particularly admired. She will be remembered for her love of family, children, animals and nature, but especially as a loving mother to Karen and Kimberley.

The family would like to thank those who helped to provide support and care to Charlotte, especially to Lorna Khan, Connie and Rick Edwards, Megan and Nick Rutledge, and Christine Murphy. Thanks also to the wonderful Northwood Homecare team, the compassionate staff at Twin Oaks, and the doctors and nurses at the Infirmary, who treated her with care and kindness.

Donations can be made to Bide Awhile or the Dartmouth SPCA. Interment and graveside ceremony to take place at Saint Peter's cemetery on Lintlops Road, Saturday April 12, 2025 at 2 pm. All are welcome. A reception will follow at Charlotte and Bernard's house

Kim, I was so very heart broken to hear of Charlotte's passing. I was introduced to Charlotte many years ago by Connie Edwards and fell in love with her right away. Over the years she would come for a visit, with Connie and I had also visited her at her home. She was a very giving, loving, funny, down to earth, intelligent Woman. I can't tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. May God bless you. ...... Marlene Lecky.
