Obituary For Daniel Joseph Serge Lachance

Daniel Joseph Serge Lachance - Porters Lake, NS

October 25th, 2024

With heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of a caring and loved brother, father, son, partner, and friend. Dan passed away peacefully in his own home surrounded by loved ones at the young age of 52.

Dan was born in Halifax, the youngest of his siblings, to Claude Lachance and Louisette (née Lafrance) Lachance. He spent the majority of his formative years in Sackville, Nova Scotia, with a few of his childhood years spent in Montreal when his father was posted there.

Dan spent 30 years in the IT industry, mostly as an instructor or creating learning materials for technical exams. He met many people that he considered friends through his career path, first working for companies such as Software Experts and PBSC before working for himself as Lachance IT Consulting Inc.

Music was a large part of Dan's life from an early age. He played many instruments over the years, from piano and percussion to guitar and bass in addition to singing. His family were all involved with music, whether cover bands, choirs, orchestras or with the Saint John Vianney Church in Lower Sackville. Dan made many connections and friends through music, from playing with bands such as Chambermade, Clusterfunk and the Soda Shoppe Gang to the jams he often held at his house. This lifelong love of music along with its constant presence influenced his children to pick up instruments themselves.

Dan was known for being very friendly and approachable to both friends and strangers. As well, he had a strong sense of humour. His dad jokes would often elicit groans from his children and anybody else within earshot.

Dan will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Claude and his older sister Claudia. He is survived by his partner Shayla; his children Roman and Trinity and their mother Janet; his mother Louisette; his brothers Kevin (Wendy), Mitch (Margaux) and Sylvain (Cheryl); his sisters Christine (Guy) and Johanne, beloved dog Dori and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 30th, 2024 at the Springfield Lake Recreation Centre with a start time of 1 PM.

I had the pleasure of working with Dan at Cobequid Petro Can and enjoying the odd game of capper to pass time during the shift. Many years later we crossed paths again at a couple of different events and I was glad to discover he was the same upbeat Dan I remembered from the 90's. You don't meet someone like that everyday, he left a positve mark wherever I remember him being. Rest easy Dan

Rest in Peace Dan, I will always remember your kind, smart, generous and funny friend. Dan is selfless and always wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time. Gone but will NEVER be forgotten!

My heartfelt condolences to all the family and close friends. Dan was simply the best example of what a human being should be. An intelligent, honest, caring, funny and decent person. I will always remember him as one of the best drummers I have even seen play and a great well rounded musician, period. I am glad for the memories that I will carry with me from the times I spent around this amazing man! Thanks for all the good times. I know you're rocking out on the other side! Rest in peace Dan.

We were so shocked to hear of Dan's passing. He was such a wonderful musician and we really enjoyed having him as part of the Soda Shoppe Gang along with his siblings Sylvain, Mitch and Johanne. What an amazing family. Our condolences to Louisette and all of the Lachance Family. George, Elaine, Angela and Jennifer Whalen

Just want to say how sorry I am to hear of Dan's Passing. I knew Dan through the school band at Sackville High and our memorable trip to Holland. He will always be a Man of 55. My condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. Derrick Peverill

I had the privilege to work with Dan for many years, starting with PBSC, and he was just the best instructor and his students loved learning from him. I used to love it when he would be scheduled to be in Ottawa and we could hang out after work. When I would travel to the east coast, I'd be lucky again to see him. Dan was the kindest, friendliest person and was nicknamed Smiling Dan amongst the Ottawa PBSC folks. May he rest in peace. Condolences to his whole family and many friends.

Sometimes you don't even have to know someone to know what kind of a person they were. In my mind, every Lachance family member were special people. I could go on and on, but I'll stop. This news deeply affected me. You're in a better place Dan 🙏

I'm a better person for having known you, Dan. Our families grew up together, and they always will be the closest of friends, as we learn to live without you here among us. I love you, Dan. See you on the Other Side.

It's so hard to say goodbye to a friend who I have been close with since Grade 8. We have lost many friends along the way, but this was the first time someone from our close inner circle had to leave us. I will miss you, Dan. I will miss all the times we laughed, all of the music and the times we would sometimes just sit around and talk about nothing at all. Our world is a different place now. RIP, my friend.

Dan was like a little brother. I enjoyed playing music with him in Chambermade and when he played with us in the Drive. I will miss him and never forget the times we spent enjoying music together. He was a gifted song writer and I enjoyed many of his original songs. He was a humble person who was an amazing musician all around. Love you Dano never forget you. Condolences to the Lachance Family, Roman and Trinity and Shay.
