Obituary For Donald Bruce Westhaver

Donald Bruce Westhaver - 67, Lunenburg, passed away suddenly on Wednesday April 19, 2023, at the QEII, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the son of C Elizabeth (Liz) Westhaver and the late Carl Westhaver.

Don was a master carpenter and was known for his skill and attention to detail. Over the past 40 years he worked on many projects in Lunenburg County. He was a passionate musician and played bass guitar all his life, most recently in the band “The Band of Strangers”. He also enjoyed the sport of target shooting.

Don was a kind and generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Don walked to his own beat, and had a close circle of friends.

Donald is survived by his mother C Elizabeth (Liz) Westhaver, his sisters Carla Yaworski (Tim), Calgary; Terri Westhaver (Peter Arsenault), Falmouth; nieces Jillian Yaworski (Diver), Calgary; Madison Yaworski (Brett), Vancouver; Elyse Hancock (Keith), Maders Cove; Sabrina Miron, Dartmouth, and great niece Olive Hancock, Maders Cove. He was predeceased by his father Carl Westhaver.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Committal will be held at a later date.

    I met Don a few years ago through his Construction Business as I had him do some work for me. We developed a friendship through music and I jammed with him quite often.. traded guitar pieces over the years. I felt privileged to know him and he was one of my closed friends. He was very generous...and a kind person. I will miss his friendship for a long time. Condolences to his all his Family.

    Memories come rushing back, of the Claremont-Warren streets families who grew up with the Westhavers when Don was a kid and teenager. There was the gang of boys, our bothers, hanging out together, goofing around, playing ball, music, and eventually doing stuff with their cars. And there were the bunch of us girls out doing our thing. Someone was always at someone else's house. We all knew everyone's parents and they knew us. We called them Mr. X and Mrs. X ... never by their first name! The girls and guys would often get together on the ball field, playing a game of baseball, and 'sledding' down that hill in the winter. Once in awhile, a game of hide and seek broke out in 'the woods' behind the Clancy's house. Don was always good for a giggle or two. I even went on a couple of 'dates' with him ... I took him to the Don Schelew Christmas party one year and another time, he took me to see the movie, 'The Exorcist'. He was old enough to get in; I don't believe I was. The crazy things we did as kids. 😉 I got to see Don for a visit; he dropped by the house a handful of years ago when I was out to see Liz and Terri in Bedford. He was even more the kind and humble guy I remembered. My sincere condolences to Liz, Carla, Terri and their families. 💔
