Obituary For Elizabeth Ewing (Asbridge)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ewing, on January 26, 2025, with her children by her side.

Mom was born in Midland, New Brunswick, the youngest of 10 children to the late John and Amy Asbridge.

She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. John General Hospital in 1960. Afterward, she worked for some time in Montreal, where she met her husband Fred. Mom was employed at Grace Maternity Hospital and later at the IWK-Grace for many years.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Fred, as well as eight of her siblings. She is survived by her two children, Mark of Lakelands and Cheryl (Gail MacMillan) of Truro; her sister, Evelyn of Midland; and her fur baby, Abby.

Like her mother, Mom was an excellent cook and baker, preparing homemade meals fit for kings. She also inherited her mother’s green thumb, spending hours tending her gardens and shrubs, much to the delight of neighbors and passersby. Mom took great pride in her property.

In later years, Mom loved to jump in her PT Cruiser and head to Truro for some cards and a trip to the camp, or to Mount Uniacke with a week's worth of food and maybe a beer or two. She enjoyed going to the Silver & Gold Club to play cards and bingo with friends. Mom also loved day trips throughout the province with her friends B&E and was always up for a game of washer toss, whether at Oakfield Park or in the backyard.

Mom, you will be missed by many.

A special thank you to Sarah (Mom’s favorite nurse), Dr. Lana, the staff of 7A VG, and Michelle for your support and kindness during Mom’s journey.

At Mom’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private burial will take place at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

I worked with Betty throughout her career at the Grace and IWK. Always fun to work with, her ready smile and sense of humour made stressful shifts easier. Rest now Betty, you have certainly earned it.
