Obituary For Frank Maxwell Brake
Brake, Frank Maxwell, Age 73, passed away at home on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Born in Newfoundland, Frank has been a long time resident of Nova Scotia. He was the youngest son of John Edmond Brake (Jack) and Lucy Ann Brake (Walsh), both of St. John’s, Newfoundland. He was also predeceased by his brothers Russell (Barbara) and John and sister Olive (Bob) and sister-in-law Olga (Bill).
Frank is survived by his wife Linda (Enslow), stepdaughter Karen (Tory), brother Bill (Olga), sister-in-law Barbara (Russ), sisters-in-law Merri Sue (John), and Cathy (Billy). Frank’s extended family included 6 nieces, 7 nephews, 5 grandnieces, 11 grandnephews, and 4 great nieces, all of whom he loved and were dear to his heart.
Frank’s professional life was checkered with positions in the construction industry, the oil rigs, and working in halfway houses for offenders. He found is niche working for Corrections Canada as a Parole Officer and dedicated himself to helping both those still incarcerated and those ex-offenders living in the community.
A former member of AA, Frank maintained his sobriety for 35 years. He was a man with a strong will, stubborn nature, and a huge heart. He discovered his passion for gardening and found joy in the plants and flowers he planted and tended to in his own back yard that he often referred to as the “back forty”.
Frank was fortunate enough to spend individual time with family and friends on the day of his passing, as well with numerous family members on the phone. He was able to say what he needed to say to each person, and he had the rare opportunity to hear what might not have been said to him otherwise. He was grateful for the love and support. He always enjoyed being a bit on the unconventional side, especially if it got a laugh from others. Frank passed surrounded by family, love and profound peace. He will be forever loved and never forgotten.
By his own request, there will be no memorial services or further celebration of life. The occasion was marked as he wished. If wanted, donations in his name can be made to the IWK Children Hospital in support of research for childhood cancer.
