It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory Eugene McDonough, who was born on January 4, 1948, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Greg was a devoted husband to Verna for 47 years, loving father to Lisa and Darren (Sarah), proud grandfather to Shelby, Brandon, Luke, and Carter, and loving brother to Mike (John). He was predeceased by his mother, Ferne, father, Harold, and sister, Lois Anne (Joe). Uncle Greg was also loved by his many nieces and nephews.
Greg was a hardworking man who was always there to lend a helping hand. On his days off, he found more work to do around his home and yard, often to give his family a nice place to gather. Greg will be most remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. When not running his successful business, he enjoyed watching sports, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Greg was a kind and generous man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on May 20, 2023, from 2-4 pm at the Cole Harbour Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd., Dartmouth, NS.

My love goes out to my good friend Lisa, her mom Verna and all of those who loved Greg. I was so sorry to learn of Greg's passing. It was easy to see that Greg truly enjoyed working to make a nice home and life for his family. He was always friendly and kind to me when I would visit. Greg will be missed. I am keeping you all in my thoughts. Susan (Edgar) Purcell.

I remember sitting in Greg basement when I was a kid watching old history war movies and watching the trains. Had many great times with Greg from a young age to the time of his passing. You will be missed. Love you Greg

Greg meant so much to my whole family. There was never a time when the sight of Greg walking down the street or stopping his car to have a chat wasn't welcome. From the times my late husband worked on Greg's latest find at the car auction,to my son working with him or fixing his computer, Greg has always been a part of our family. He was so kind to me after my husband passed away. Always caring, always kind, always a friend. Rest in peace dear Greg.

I've known Greg and the McDonough-Boutilier family for basically my entire life. Our family moved to this brand new subdivision of Forest Hills when I was about 2 years old and we lived right across the street. My parents still live there today, so they have been neighbours for over 45 years. Lisa was our beloved babysitter and Verna took care of my sister Koto and I at lunchtime when my mom was working. When I got older, I babysat Darren a few times. I have a million memories of Greg, but the one that comes to mind is when he handed me a small envelope and said there were rattlesnake eggs in it and when I opened it, a spring was set off inside. He was so kind to me and my family for my entire life and even though I haven't lived in Nova Scotia since I was 18, I will miss him so much. I'm sending all my love and support to Verna, Lisa, Darren, and whole family.

Where do I begin, Greg was more than an uncle to me. He was a great person, great father, and great uncle. I have such fond wonderful memories with Greg. Seeing the old Sinbad (clay animation lol) movies with Verna and Greg, playing cards/games, or just having great laughs and conversation. I always felt connected to Greg, we shared so many common interests, worked together in his business and spent many holidays together. I have missed those times and now will miss them even more. Sense of humour, that is something he had in abundance with great wit and intelligence. So many funny stories shared and even experienced together. It is sad he has to leave us, but the comfort in knowing his pain and suffering is over is a bit of comfort. Rest well my Uncle Greg, you are and will be missed.
