Obituary For Heather Maureen Skanes
It is with profound grief and sadness that the Skanes family announces her sudden passing at home on May 24th, 2023. The daughter of the late Roy and Cornelia (Dorey) Logan, she was predeceased by her brothers Roy and Donnie.
Left to mourn are Woody, her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, and her adoring children Kevin (daughter in-law Amanda Hughes), John (Andrea Mariner), and Michelle (Stephen Sparkes) along with her pride and joy, grandchildren Emmett, Ava, Livia, Claire, and Jillian. She is also survived by her sister Lana Bergstrom (Arden), brother Wayne Logan (Kim), and sisters in law Jackie Logan and Vicki Jefferson-Logan.
Heather grew up in a military family which gave her the unique qualifications to become the consummate military wife that took her from coast to coast in support of Woody’s career. She quietly and efficiently made a safe and loving home for her family at each new posting. She was the glue that kept her family close and every single day she made wonderful loving memories that we now cherish and hold dear.
Upon Woody’s retirement the family relocated to Halifax where she resumed her career as a dedicated civil servant completing a 25-year career with the RCMP.
Heather was a devoted wife, an incredible mother and an outstanding grandmother. She was lovingly referred to as Nanny and Little Nan. She was small in stature, but she left the imprint of a giant everywhere she went. She had an abiding love for animals and was on a first name basis with all her little canine friends in the neighbourhood, especially Lulu, Georgie, Audrey, and Violet.
Mom was strong in her faith and even though we were not ready to let her go, we take comfort in knowing she was ready when she was called home by her lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a funeral service on June 9th at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Anglican church in Middle Sackville.
