Obituary For Patricia Anne Brown

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Patricia Anne (Pat) Brown announces her sudden passing on February 27, 2025 at her home in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 71.

Pat was predeceased by her father, Kingsley Brown II, her youngest brother Quentin and infant brother David. She is survived by her dearly loved mother Evelyn (Kinley) Brown, her siblings, Kingsley (Cathy), Bob (Debbie), Heather, and Nancy (Ron Falkenham), as well as her step-mother, Nancy Stevens. Aunt Pat was much loved by her nieces and nephews: Lauren Brown and David Brown, Lindsay Brown and Jennifer (Brown) Wall, Karen MacKenzie, and Megan MacKenzie, Jonathan and Cody Brown, as well as her grandnieces and nephews.

Following graduation from Antigonish East High School in 1969, Pat continued her education at St. Francis Xavier University where she earned a Bachelor of Secretarial Arts Degree in 1973. She began her professional career with the Federal Government Department of External Affairs and spent several years in various postings around the world: Johannesburg, Trinidad, Seattle, Geneva, Baghdad and Vienna. Pat returned to Halifax in 1986 and began working for National Sea Products. She attained her MBA from Dalhousie University in 1993, and completed her working career as the Finance and Administration Manager for the Metropolitan Regional Housing Authority in 2014.

Pat enjoyed living and sharing her home with her beloved mother in Halifax and was a devoted caregiver in her mother’s later years, despite her own progressive illness. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her sister Heather in Victoria, BC and her nieces in London, UK, and in Ottawa, showing her sisters and friends around Europe, and in later years traveling with her father and stepmother. A most special trip was their visit to Holland for the commemoration of her grandfather and the three members of his flight crew who were shot down near a village in northern Holland in WWII. Pat spent hundreds of hours chronicling her father’s and grandfather’s writings, books and photographs and was fondly thought of as the family archivist. She was an avid reader and carried on her mother’s tradition of making Nan jam and fruit cakes for everyone in the family for Christmas. In her retirement she taught herself to knit and delighted everyone in the family with her beautiful creations.

At Pat’s request a grave-side memorial service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to honour her memory are welcome to make a donation to Lung NSPEI at https://www.lungnspei.ca/ or to a charity of your choice.
