Obituary For Phyllis A Porter
Porter, Phyllis A passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on January 11, 2025 at Maplestone Enhanced Care in Halifax. Born in Port Elgin, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Flora (Trenholm) O’Connell.
Phyllis was a graduate of Saint Charles Commercial School in 1940. Mom was a secretary at Dartmouth High School, The Canadian Bible Society in Halifax and Underwriters Adjustment Office in Dartmouth. She retired from the Dartmouth General Hospital to provide day care for her grandchildren, Dawn and Chris. She was a minister’s wife for over 40 years working in churches in Chester Basin, Oxford, Dartmouth and Bridgetown.. Mom loved to knit, read and do crossword puzzles.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Shelagh Radcliffe(Mark), son Keith Porter (Peter Whynot) and grandchildren Christopher Radcliffe (Asheigh Boers) and Blake Whynot (Alysha Thornton) , half sisters Rita Kyle and Cathy Spicer(Darren), numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Rev. John W. Porter, granddaughter Dawn Radcliffe, brother Claude O’Connell, sisters Madelyn Walker (Harry), Cladie Wentzell (Karl), half brother Charlie Kyle.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Donald K. Walker Funeral Directors Ltd. At Phyllis’ request there will be no visitation or service. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Sackville United Baptist Church, 1240 Old Sackville Road, the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
