Obituary For Raymond Garfield Wallage

Raymond Garfield Wallage Age 71, of Halifax, passed away on January 30th. Born in Halifax, Raymond was the beloved son of the late Blair and Jessica (Blackburn) Wallage.

Raymond dedicated 35 years to the Halifax Shipyards, now Irving Shipyards, before retiring. He spent most of his life in Mount Uniacke, where he found joy in tending his garden and being part of the community. Known for his kindness and generosity, he was always willing to lend a helping hand—whether changing a flat tire on the highway or assisting a stranded driver. Stories of his selflessness and goodwill were countless.

Above all, family meant the world to Raymond. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren, and his devotion to them was immeasurable. His life took a dramatic turn in 2010 when he suffered a life-altering stroke, but despite the challenges, his spirit and sense of humour never wavered. He found great joy in teasing the staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, often giving them a fright with a loud “Boo!” while they connected his feeding tube.

Raymond will be forever loved and missed by his children: Raymond Wallage (Ottawa), Dwayne Wallage (Halifax), April Kathleen Wallage (Michael Hood, Dartmouth), and Conway (Leeann) Wallage (Lower Sackville). He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren: Maki and Willow, Jessica, Delaney, Kenzie, Steven, Taylor, Sydnie, and Grayson. And his brother Blair (Barb) Wallage, sister Marlene (Robert) Ringer and his nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Gloria Norris, Dianne Outhouse and brother Terry Wallage.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, especially the team on the 3rd floor, for their kindness, compassion, and care over the years. A special thank you as well to the nurses at the Halifax Infirmary Emergency and ICU departments, who provided comfort and support during a difficult time.

In remembrance of Raymond, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.

At the request of our father, no service will be held.

I remember when Conway and I moved into our new home and Raymond came to visit. He had a brand new dehumidifier with him because he thought we could use it. Christmas we would find him dropping off far too much Christmas junk food for the kids haha. Which he loved seeing them excited to get all of it. He was a kind, giving man who loved his family dearly. He will be missed

I remember when I would come home with friends in the summer. Dad would be suntanning on his lounge chair. Though he would be wearing his speedo. My friends would be uncomfortable and I would be laughing and did didn't give a crap. Just stayed there enjoying the sun.
