Obituary For Sharon Amelia Bryson

Sharon’s family sadly announce her passing at age 76 on August 12, 2023 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Sharon was born in Halifax and was predeceased by her father Calder and mother Doris (Cooke).

Following two early open-heart surgeries (age 3 and 13) she lived an active, happy life, enjoying many trips with friends and family. Most notably Sharon enjoyed her trips to Disney with her sister Janet and niece Liza. Sharon had a long career as Executive Assistant to Dr. Brian Chandler, Head of Cardiology at Dalhousie University. Sharon lived with our mother and was caregiver extraordinaire until Mom’s death at 97. Sharon was accomplished at knitting and crocheting and other handcrafts. Many in the family were grateful recipients of her handiwork. Sharon was a very caring, kind and generous person. A gentle soul, she was well-loved by her family and friends and loved each of them in return. She will be missed.

Sharon is survived by sisters, Sheilia (Sperry), Janet (Michel Robichaud) and brother David (Candace). She was also the proud aunt of five nieces, two nephews, 4 grand-nieces and 4 grandnephews. Sharon was also predeceased by brother Donald, brother-in-law Drew Sperry and nephew Gregor Sperry.

As per Sharon’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside committal service will be held later for family and close friends. Sharon would appreciate any donations in her memory be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would like to thank everyone involved in Sharon’s medical care over the last two years

On August 12 I lost my sister and my roommate. Sharon and I lived together for the last five years. Sharon's patience and cool head insured that throughout that time we had one disagreement. My fault, of course. Sharon loved family events and was always ready to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and just plain sunny days at the cottage. She was so talented with her knitting and just about every kind of handcraft. She loved a good mystery book. She loved everyone of her family members and let us know. There were always cards in the mail. She never did trust the interest. She was generous to a fault and gave to a number of charities on a regular basis. She was a bright spot in our lives and I will miss her dearly.

I met Sharon when the Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery were relocated to the then new Dickson Centre. This was one unflappable lady. She was the mainstay of a very busy Division and a myriad of personalities. I can't ever remember her being upset by any circumstance. Like Colleen said after a chat with Sharon you came away feeling better. RIP, Sharon. Sandra Martin

I will miss Sharon. She was so kind and soft spoken. I have enjoyed reading the other messages from past co-workers who describe Sharon just as I would expect, so patient and easy going. Sharon was so fortunate to have such a supportive, loving family. I pray she is now at peace; big hug for the family during this difficult time.

Sharon as your "baby brother" I wanted to thank you for the enormous influence that you have had on my life. You taught me compassion through the love and caring you gave to our mother over the many years of your selfless companionship. You showed true affection towards all around you. Whether it was your adopted dog Muffin or the stray cat Puss that arrived at your door on Garden Street. You were an affectionate Aunt to your many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. They all loved their Aunt Sharon. You also taught me to show respect to all people and nature and to take pleasure in simple things like family gatherings or the many drives to the valley or cottage. Your enthusiasm towards all that you did and your sincere love of family and friends will always stay with me. You were dearly loved and be forever missed. Love your brother David

08/22/23 - Joanne Henrich I first met Sharon when I joined the Dept of Cardiology as a Nurse Coordinator. Sharon had the sweetest demeanour and infectious smile that made everyone feel at home. She always shared her warmth with others. She was delightfully dedicated to her work and shared her gentle and pleasant manner with all. Hers was a life well lived and brought joy to this world. My sincere sympathy to her family whom she always held close to her heart. Peace be with you.

I lost my Aunt Sharon who I love dearly. I will keep on loving her and remembering her for the beautiful person she was. She forever holds a very special space in my heart. I heard a segment on the radio this week, about the importance of honouring the "grownups" who helped raise us. I am so lucky to have had such a thoughtful and selfless person as a constant presence in my life story. With her quite knowing and ability to raise others up, I can't remember a single time she didn't make me feel both loved and appreciated for my own uniqueness. She accepted people for who they are, and wished only the best for others, especially those in our family. Sharon was a warm and safe space for all who knew her. I already miss being around her so much. I can only hope she understood how much I admired her, and how very much our connection meant to me. I am proud as ever to be Carlee Sharon Bryson. I promise her I will live up to our name, and continue to watch over our family as we heal from the loss of our very own earth angel. Love Carlee

Such a loss. Sharon was always so thoughtful and generous with her time and knowledge - never too busy to lend a hand or an ear. Ever so pleasant and always organized. I admired her and will remember her with great fondness. My deepest condolences to the Bryson family and her friends. - Monique Wilkinson

Sheila, Janet, David and Families, Words cannot be expressed. I grew up with Sharon and David, from Sept 73 to June 81 as I boarded in their home, with their Mom, Doris. July 23, 2014 was the last time we were all together. My best memory, was when the phone rang. Is Sharon there, which one? To my Bryson Family, I share in the loss of Sharon with you. Hugs and Prayers. RIP Sharon. You may be gone, but will live on in our hearts forever.

To Sharon's entire family: I first met Sharon on July 7th, 1986 when I was hired within the Division of Cardiology. My office space was next door to her's. She trained me and showed me the steps without any frustration. From that date onwards Sharon was so supportive, patient, knowledgeable, kind and one of the most understanding ladies I had in my life. There was only one IBM which we had to share and it was at her desk. I would use it daily and never did she mind especially when I would be in her space. She was truly something else! She taught me embroidery stitches with great patience. She loved her family dearly and always talked about family visits and new members. She loved you all beyond belief and I am sure you knew. I can only send you courage and strength through prayer. Rest well my old friend, xo Sincerely, Wendy M. Poirier

Condolences and Blessings to Sharon's close knit and loving family. I knew my dear friend Sharon as an intelligent, kind and very creative person , always with a twinkle in her eye and a wonderful dry sense of humour. In recent years I especially enjoyed our almost monthly lunches together; one time on the Dartmouth side then the next time on the Halifax side.

I was sorry to read of Sharon's passing. I knew Sharon many years ago when we were in grade school together at Ardmore School. I went to her birthday parties. Sharon always wore delicate knitted sweaters knit by someone who passed on the artistry to her. We traded many a Nancy Drew book during those few years at Ardmore until the family moved. Condolences to the Bryson family.

So very saddened to read about Sharon. We worked for many years in cardiology together and shared several stories about our families. She was a very proud sister/daughter/aunt. She was always so friendly and gracious and met everyone with a smile. In the last few years we still kept in contact via email. I will miss her. Thinking of her family during this sad time. Sharon was such a kind, patient and thoughtful person. She helped me and many others navigate the ropes and learn to survive in a busy Cardiology office. She was extremely busy herself, but always found the time to just listen, or offer advice if that was what you needed. After a chat with Sharon, your mind was always a bit clearer, somehow. Condolences to her family and friends.
