Obituary For Stanley James Williams

Stan “the ladies’ man” Williams died on Feb 4th, 2025 at the ripe age of 72 years young.

Born in Pool’s Cove, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland to Stanley and Flora Williams (Perham), he was the only son amongst seven children. This was a title that SURELY did not mean he got away with just about everything. Although his mother had great aspirations, and dreamt of her son becoming a minister, Stanley decided to make it his mission to attempt every other occupation instead. However, if you ask us, a church led by minister Stanley J. may have been one worth attending.

A legend in his own mind, Dad was fond of his early years playing High School Football for the Queen Elizabeth High (QEH) Lions. Particularly, winning the first Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Championship in 1969. He remained a life long football fan.

Jack of all trades, master of none, if you name it Dad probably did it. Some of his most treasured years was time spent as a server in the beverage room scene throughout the 70’s and 80’s where he made friends with half of Halifax. Often times, you could not walk down the street, or into any building in this great city alongside our father without running into someone he knew. His greeting typically came with a big toothy smile and a boisterous laugh followed by a “holy shit, _______, how the hell are yah!”

Stanley will be greatly missed for the fashion connoisseur that he was. Simply put, no one else could rock a set of white paint-stained coveralls, Dulux paint shirt or a pair of cut off shorts (cut way too short) the way he did. There is nothing we will miss more than placing bets on what he might show up wearing to family or formal events (knowing very well it would likely be a black cut off tee, jeans, his gold chain and a pair of sandals which offered everyone a glimpse at perhaps the ugliest feet in this world).

Dad was immensely proud of his family and always stated that his children, Kristin, Kyle and Kaitlyn were his greatest accomplishments. This deep love, affection and pride only continued to grow with the addition of his four grandchildren, Patrick, Cohen, Clara and Lucy. The family values he instilled will certainly be carried forward for generations to come. Stanley was pre-deceased by sisters Rena, Netha, Margurite (Wayne) and beloved brother-in-law Raymond James. He is survived by sisters Joyce (Charlie), Mabel and Sherry (Shane), and children Kristin (Todd), Kyle (Tamara) and Kaitlyn (Brent), grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the healthcare professionals who provided comfort, support and care to our father and our entire family over the past 7 weeks. Although not everyone who made an impact can be named, we wish to provide a heart-felt thank you to Dr. Johnston & Dr. Moeller, Patti, Chen, Jacob, Ashley, Rachel and Dad’s quiet angel Martin. The care delivered, and the way in which you made Dad (and ourselves) feel will surely never be forgotten.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes there will not be a formal service. We welcome anyone who knew him to join us at the Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch 160 at 703 Main Street in Dartmouth on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 starting at 3 pm. We will begin with a few spoken words followed by a social gathering. Drop in throughout the afternoon/evening, anytime before 11 pm. Our father’s biggest wish was for everyone to come together, have a drink, laugh and share stories - so that is exactly what we intend to do.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you simply spread a little love and kindness in Stanley James Williams’ honour where ever you may go, and always remember, “You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can never pick your friend’s nose!”

What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful dad.! You sure hit the mark to honour him. I was one of the lucky kids who knew Stan in my teen years. It's plain to see his kindness and unique smile touched so many. I would run into him occasionally through the years and always went away uplifted. A rare gem. All the best to you. To the family of Stan, My most heartfelt condolences to you all. Thank you for sharing this amazing man with us these past few weeks. He taught me so much in such a short time, about basically nothing, except the fact that I need to tell my children more, just how much I love them. I've never seen a prouder father and grandfather and it melts my heart to think about it. I wish you all the happiness in the world, and am so happy you have so many great memories to share about your dad/granddad/brother/friend. (Amazing words in the obituary; speaks volumes to your relationship with your dad). All the best to you all. Rachel, 5w
